nDream Opens Studio for Live Service VR Titles

When it comes to Vr games, one of the companies that are on the rise is nDream. A British developer who’s been making VR titles for all sorts of communities. With their first title being Phantom: Covert Ops, an Oculus Quest title that puts players in the shoes of a stealth agent who’s sneaking into a NATO Base to discover information about a Russian General and also has players sneaking around, using stealth attacks, and planning their strategy if they want to complete their mission.

What Has nDream Done So Far?

nDream has also developed Far Cry VR, which isn’t much of a proper Far Cry game, but is more like a VR adventure that can only be experienced in a VR Warehouse. The Story is similar to Far Cry 3, with the characters being screamed at by Far Cry 3 Antagonist Vaas before fighting a slew of enemies in a wave-based shooting style. However, the game lets players physically walk around the environment while shooting enemies, thanks to the game taking place inside of a large open space with users having the pc rigs running the game attached to their back. The game also uses the ability to walk around the game world in real life to push the feeling of immersion.

However, nDream is coming back to VR with a PCVR exclusive title known as Fracked, which takes the player on a wild journey into the post-apocalypse. Letting the player ski, climb zipline, and shoot bad guys in this action-adventure. The Player is going to be able to fight their way through the story with a league of weapons while racing down Zip Lines and skiing down mountains.

However, nDream is looking to move into a new world of Virtual Reality gaming, Live service titles. With a new studio known as nDream Studios Orbital. With this studio focusing on VR Live service titles, something along the lines of Fortnite or GTA Online, games that will continue onwards while the game is released, adding new content while still keeping a relatively free price. The CEO of nDream Studios Orbital stated. “VR continues to grow at a pace so it’s an incredibly exciting time to join, There are so many awesome games out there already, but there’s still so much to discover, especially around experiences that engage players for years. I can’t wait to start building out the team and deliver something truly amazing for all the VR players out there!”

The possibility of a live service title for VR sounds promising, especially with the fact that VR titles are sparse, and a live service title on VR systems might be the money maker the platform needs to boost its popularity. However, the game is going to have to be a Killer app to get people to purchase a VR Headset. With the quality of nDream, a live service VR title would have to consist of a fantastic gameplay loop as well as a regular amount of content to keep players coming back. On top of this, putting it on all platforms, from Quest to PSVR to Index, the game is going to have to pull some major weight to keep the game alive after launch.

Regardless, whatever nDream is planning for VR, their future projects are going to have to be something special if the players are to keep coming.
