Wizards of the Coast is continuing to share some of the new cards that will be part of the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2020, which will release both physically and digitally for players next month. The newest card to be revealed is the Mu Yanling, Sky Dancer Planeswalker card.

As always, if you are averse to spoilers, be sure to turn away now so that you don’t spoil what this card entails for you and your deck ahead of the expansion’s release. For those who don’t mind the spoilers, the Mu Yanling Planeswalker card is a blue color card that is especially made for those blue control decks.

Mu Yanling Planeswalker Card Details

This is great news for blue color players who haven’t gotten much love recently. Like with other sets in the recent past, MTG Core Set 2020 continues the trend of catering to red color decks, specifically, in the realm of aggro cards and the typical creatures as we expect.

Mu Yanling MTG Card

This is exemplified in the fact that Chandra, a red color Planeswalker, is the star of the MTG Core Set 2020 as the featured Planeswalker on the cover. In addition, she is getting three cards of the uncommon, rare, and Mythic rare varieties whereas everyone else only has Mythic cards in this set.

One such Planeswalker card is the Mu Yanling, which will be sure to please blue color deck players like this author. Not only is the card simplistic but elegant and gorgeous in its art, but it has some solid abilities, too. This new Mu Yanling card is a three cost mana Planeswalker card, with two blue mana required.

The low cost of her mana is offset by the fact that Mu Yanling has a low loyalty count at two when you first play her. Though this is certainly low, it is balanced by her low mana requirement and other great abilities. The first of these being a plus two ability that will damage flyers with a minus two and minus zero until your next turn.

That’s not all, though. From there, her minus three ability allows her to summon a four and four elemental bird creature that also has flying, which is impressive and will be a huge help for blue control decks. And that’s all before her excellent ultimate ability, too.

Her minus eight ability allows you to draw a card for every land card that you have tapped. This is a wonderful ability for blue control deck users when paired with the four and four elemental bird summon. In addition, Mu Yanling is a Planeswalker that could work in other blue decks as well.

Magic Core Set 2020 Release Date

It is hard to say how she will turn out in the competitive scene until the MTG Core Set 2020 releases next month but at least for now, she seems like a brilliant addition to the blue color. This ensures that the red decks aren’t the only ones to get some love this set and gives us hope that other colors will get some much needed attention, too.

We won’t have to wait too much longer to find out either as the MTG Core Set 2020 is around the corner. The official release date for the physical cards is set for July 12, 2019 but you can get your hands on them literally and figuratively before that release date.

The pre-release for the physical cards of the MTG Core Set 2020 will be a week earlier on July 5. In addition, digital card players will have a much earlier chance to check out the new cards in the upcoming set when it releases on Magic: The Gathering Arena and Magic Online simultaneously on July 2.

Stay tuned for more Magic: The Gathering news as we approach the release of the core set.
