MTG Arena May Patch 0.15 Breakdown
MTG Arena patch 0.15 is out now for all players around the world on PC. If you hop onto the game, you will be asked to download this latest update for the game that includes some pretty major changes. The changes include various things like a brand new event, tons of gameplay changes, and of course, more cosmetics.
There is so much to take in with this latest update that still has the game at a relatively low patch number, making it not even close to a full release. If you’re interested in seeing what’s new with this update, follow along with us as we break down every bit of this patch.
War of the Spark Chronicles Event
You may have seen us already cover this recently, but with this patch, comes the release of the War of the Sparks Chronicles event that is available right now if you’re reading this. This is the latest limited time event and it’s a pretty long one for sure.
The event will last for five weeks in total and each week, there will be a new match format for players to take on as well as new rewards to gain. The first week is available right now and will run from now until next week on June 31.
The first week is a Momir event, featuring that particular match format. While it is the traditional bizarre style where you can select Momir to get a random creature equal to how much mana you discard, there is one key change as well.
You will get the typical deck full of nothing but just basic land cards, but you will also get all 36 of the brand new War of the Sparks Planeswalkers cards in your deck, too. This will totally change up the typical Momir formula and also allow for more strategy rather than total randomness.
That’s not all, though, as that is just week one. There are four more weeks beyond that including week two, which will feature the classic Pauper format where you can only have common rarity cards in your deck.
The third week will be Singleton week in the limited time event mode, meaning that you can only have one of each card in your deck minus a few exceptions like Rat Colony and so on. The fourth week will actually be a brand new match format we haven’t seen before called Counters.
It seems to be a slightly complex but interesting match style where each turn, you get to place a plus one counter on various cards you have in play. Be sure to expect a full breakdown of this new match style as we get closer to its release in the fourth week.
The fifth and final week of the Chronicles limited time event will see players take on opponents using the familiar Ravnica Constructed match style. What’s great about this event is that the rewards are pretty sweet and anyone can jump in.
The event is totally free to play with no entry fee. What’s even better is that the event doesn’t record your losses so you can keep playing for as long as the event is going on and racking up wins. There are rewards up to 15 wins in total so you have a good bit of time to get there.

The stained glass card styles available to earn in week one of the Chronicles event.
Some of the rewards include gold as well as some epic stained glass Planeswalkers card cosmetics. These are certainly rewards that you won’t want to miss out on. You can also use the event mode to progress through daily quests and contribute towards weekly win bonuses.
It is worth also noting that the Persistent Petitioners card is banned in next week’s Pauper event and Gates Ablaze is banned in Ravnica Constructed.
Mythic Championship Qualifier Weekend
The Mythic Championship Qualifier weekend is coming up real fast so players who are eligible for the event, which you should already know who you are, will find the event popping up within the game itself.
You should be able to easily locate the Mythic Championship Qualifier event in the home lobby of the game or alternatively under the play section in the events area. If you don’t see the event in either of these places and know that you are absolutely qualified, then you need to contact support as soon as possible.
Gameplay Changes
There are a few notable gameplay changes that players will need to know about, starting with the best of three matches. This traditional match format will now feature a match clock in addition to the turn timers that are already visible.
Each player has 30 minutes total on the match clock that counts down while they have priority. If you want to see how much total time you have left, be sure to hover over the clock itself. The time will become automatically visible once you have less than 10 minutes in the first game, less than eight in the second game, and less than six minutes in the third and final game.
No matter what, you do not want the match clock to reach zero for you. If this happens, you will automatically lose the entire match regardless of how well you were doing. Remember to be mindful of that and the existing turn timers and you’ll be fine.
The Direct Challenge feature has also changed as well. There is a challenge match option when challenging another player directly or the new tournament match option. The former allows you to select and agree upon the match options while the tournament match is set to the standard rules.
The standard tournament match options are best of three, first turn is selected via coin flip, decks are standard 60 with optional sideboard, and there is a match clock and turn timers. If players select two different options, they will not be able to start the match until they change it.
There is also a new auto tap button that players can use to pay for spells and abilities. The UI has been updated now, too, to correctly show the distribution effect and prevent players from changing these values.
Deck Builder Changes
Deck building should be much more easier with MTG Arena patch 0.15 since there are key improvements. There is now a basic land filter that is located within the advanced filter options. You will be able to see the land illustrations and select which you want in your deck more easily.
You can also select the color you want to show up while filtering for basic land cards, too. This feature is also available in draft and sealed game modes as well. New card styles that you get will now automatically update all available cards in your deck builder, but you can disable this feature if you want.
Thankfully, crafting has returned. You will see the craft button once again, which will you show you cards you have and don’t have, and give you the option to craft the cards you don’t have or don’t have four copies of.
