MrConRem Plans Streaming Return After Grooming Allegations
In December, MrConRem had serious allegations of grooming against him. He was accused of receiving pictures of a 17-year-old girl for money. There are several screenshots, and the streamer said he was told the girl was 18 and called it a mistake. From there, he left a TwitLonger and deactivated his Twitter. However, we’ve since seen this morning that MrConRem, after these allegations, will make a streaming return. It predictably has been met with very mixed, very loud reactions. He has also since posted another apology.
An Apology and an Impending Return
Despite there being very loud voices that MrConRem doesn’t deserve the following he has, he plans on keeping to his streaming return. Known for playing Fortnite, MrConRem has near 200,000 followers on Twitch, which is no small feat. The problem is when someone with that following abuses that power. Whether streamers realize it or not, with that kind of popularity comes the responsibility of being a decent person.
MrConRem, according to one of the screenshot leakers, says the girl in question is 17, and MrConRem is 24 (the person in the texts got his age wrong). They also allege it happens to a 15-year-old girl. There is no excusing that kind of behavior. It’s disappointing to see, and that’s an understatement.
The streamer had not spoken about the incident until now. “I would like to start out by saying I’m sorry. My actions last year were in no way acceptable. I’m sorry to those that looked up to me who I let down. I made bad choices that I have been reflecting on, and that is not the person I am or strive to be. I realize now that I used my “clout” to my benefit, and I’m embarrassed and ashamed. I will do better. I am doing better.”
The above link has the entire TwitLonger. Has MrConRem atoned for his actions or admitted fault? He certainly should. He solicited minors for “photos” and abused his platform for his gain. It’s beyond reproach. This writer certainly isn’t going to welcome him back to Twitch, that’s for sure. You can’t just say “Everyone makes mistakes” when it’s something like this. It’s not a thing that gets forgiven and forgotten.
We’re curious to see if Twitch has anything to say about it, one of their big names admitting to wrongdoing. He still has his channel. This is an issue Twitch has started taking seriously when partnered streamers have accusations made against them. Somehow, MrConRem has evaded any bans or punishment on the platform, but we’ll have to see what comes of his streaming return. It’s a bold strategy to just come back like that after such serious allegations were made, but we will have to wait and see how that goes.
There is no excusing this kind of behavior. We hope he can get better and take responsibility, but we do not condone or excuse that kind of action.
