by in Fighting Game News | Jun, 18th 2019

The latest update to Mortal Kombat 11, specifically, for the Nintendo Switch version is available right now. This update brings some major changes to gameplay, the Krypt and Towers of Time, and the usual character changes as well.

In addition, this is the update that brings the release of the first post-launch DLC character Shang Tsung. He is now available to play through on all four platforms, all but Switch is available right now without an update. For Switch owners, you’ll need this latest patch.

Beyond the new features and changes, there are also gameplay adjustments that fix and change up quite a few things on the Switch version. With patch notes that are fairly average in length, let’s take a look at what this Mortal Kombat 11 Shang Tsung update includes for Nintendo Switch owners.

General Gameplay Changes

First off, there are a decent amount of gameplay changes worth mentioning. There are some more corrections to the move list building upon the existing changes, improvements to AI, and fixes for several online desync issues.

Here are the rest of the fixes for gameplay elements:

  • Removed a rare crash that could occur after a Quitality
  • Fixed an issue that cause users to lose controller functionality when trying to record an AI command after pausing the game with very specific timing
  • Trying to Practice Reset while waiting in a KOTH lobby will no longer sometimes reset twice in a row
  • Added an Easy Krushing Blows option to Practice Mode’s Practice Options which will bypass most Krushing Blow’s conditional requirements
  • Added Random Hidden option to Practice Mode AI Options’ Playback Recording Slot selection
  • Added several new Brutalities for players to discover
  • Added Variation info to the pause menu and some multiplayer online loading screens
  • Added Kombat League online game mode. Season I (The Season of Blood) starts today, June 18th!
  • Ranked Sets (only available when a Kombat League season is not active) are now a first to 2 match set
  • Fixed an instance where the game would crash on start-up due to a conflict with the server, requiring players to delete their local MK11 data.
  • Fixed a bug in displaying the opponent’s FPS rating
  • Fixed several instances of SFX not playing correctly with Mouse/Keyboard
  • Fixed multiple minor issues with Mouse/Keyboard input

Krypt and Towers of Time Adjustments

The Krypt has some important changes and fixes to it, too. A rare bug has been fixed that would cause some players to be locked out of the Armory after receiving the spear. It also removed the way that some players were able to get out of bounds and explore outside of the environment under certain circumstances.

It also fixed a crash that would sometimes happen to players who explored the Krypt after having already spent a good bit of time in the Towers of Time beforehand. Last but not least, all Skeleton Key Gates will now reward players with some currency when you open them.

As for the Towers of Time itself, it received a couple of important changes. The difficulty of some starting towers have been adjusted, which is great for players trying out Towers of Time for the first time. This Mortal Kombat 11 Shang Tsung update also adds some new boss fights, additional rewards, as well as new Tower Platform rewards.

Character Changes

As always, this latest Mortal Kombat 11 Shang Tsung update brings a ton of changes to several of the characters within the roster, most notably of which is Erron Black.

Baraka

To start off, Baraka’s high and mid parries will now work correctly against the War Banner Charge. His Sinister Slice move will also not have an inconsistent hit region.

Cassie Cage

As for Cassie Cage, the enemy will no longer play out certain animations when they lose to Bitchin’ Bubble. Also, BLB-118 will not sometimes lose functionality when the enemy loses to Control’s WubWub and Fun Phaser attacks.

Cetrion

Cetrion has a similar fix to Cassie in which the enemy will not play out some animations after losing to Ring of Fire. His high and mid parries will now work right against Unlimited Potential, too.

D’Vorah

D’Vorah has an adjusted animation for the backwards roll so that the recovery isn’t slower than it’s supposed to be.

Erron Black

Erron Black has a ton of changes including a new ammo counter to show how many bullets remain and an enemy animation fix for when they lose to Zaterrean Spit. Swinging Pistol now has a consistent hit and it corrected the damage scaling for Onto the Shoot.

There are also some fixes for Erron’s hat being misaligned and another fix for his dynamite being misaligned under certain circumstances.

Frost

Frost also has a few important fixes and changes, too. Clipping issues have been fixed for when you repel during throw escape. Animations have been fixed for enemies who lose to Core Trap. And last but not least, Core Overload amp no longer continues after the Krushing Blow cinematic.

How to Download Shang Tsung

As this is the Mortal Kombat 11 Shang Tsung update, the character is now available for the first time through early access only. This means that if you don’t own the Kombat Pack, you won’t have access to this character until a week from now on.

On June 25, all other players will have the chance to buy Shang Tsung online. For now, though, early access players can check him out. To get the Kombat Pack, you must buy it separately or have the Premium Edition of the game.

The general method for accessing Shang Tsung is fairly similar across all four platforms. The general idea is that you will need to go through the online store on your platform of choice. For example, if you are on Switch, you will need to head to the Mortal Kombat 11 eShop page. PS4 owners will need to find the game on the PSN store and so on.

You will need to scroll down through the game’s page and find the DLC section at the bottom for it. From there, you should find the Shang Tsung DLC and it should show up as free to download for you if you have the Kombat Pack on that platform.

Simply download it and wait for it to finish. Once it’s done, boot up the game and you should be able to find the new DLC character available for you inside.
