Modern Warfare and Warzone Double XP Weekend Announced in Latest Weekly Blog
Activision has released the latest weekly blog post for the Call of Duty universe. It includes (almost) all of the announcements and news regarding what is coming to everything Modern Warfare, Warzone, Mobile, and more. This includes the new Modern Warfare and Warzone double XP weekend and more.
Activision Releases New Blog Post for Everything Call of Duty
Players can check out the entirety of the new weekly Call of Duty announcements blog post here. There is a lot to unpack in this update even though it is a bit lighter than usual. That is mainly because the update holds back on one particular announcement that we’ll get to later.
That said, the typical weekly blog post goes over every major game in the series including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, its battle royale mode and standalone spin-off game Warzone, Call of Duty Mobile, even Black Ops 4, and the esports-focused Call of Duty League.
Given that March is coming to an end very soon, it is no surprise that we have a lot of information to cover. There are a couple of new battle pass seasons on the way in the coming days and weeks that are sure to shake things up.
As such, this week turns out to be a little quieter than usual, though, there is something likely to happen that isn’t talked about in the weekly blog post. That is, of course, the Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Campaign leak that happened very recently.
The remaster of the classic game’s singleplayer story is likely to happen soon (this week, potentially) and it isn’t mentioned in the blog. This is understandable, though, since it will likely be a surprise announcement. But beyond that, let’s take a look at what’s new for Modern Warfare and Warzone, including some new game modes and experience.
Modern Warfare Cyber Attack Pro Announced
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has a lot going for it right now. With the current second season on its way out soon, there is a lot of content surprisingly happening for the game. This is crazy given the fact that there is likely to be a whole lot more soon.
But before the start of the new season for the battle pass happens, players have a new game mode to check out in Modern Warfare. This new game mode is known as Cyber Attack Pro, a limited-edition twist on the typical objective-based game mode that players already know and love.
This game mode that is new to Modern Warfare is similar to Search and Rescue, featuring two teams of six players each. Both teams will spawn at the start of the match on either side of the area with their own data center that acts as their objective to protect and home base.
Once the players spawn into the match, they will see a bomb location appear randomly somewhere on the map. The objective is very simple and similar to Search and Destroy in a way: pick up the bomb and take it to the enemy data center to destroy it.
What is intriguing about Cyber Attack is that once someone picks up the bomb, the information regarding the bomb’s location disappears so that the enemy team won’t know for sure where the player is at. But they will know that they are likely heading for their data center.
At the same time, the friendly players on the same side as the bomb carrier will have the location of the enemy data center, so that they can easily get there and activate the explosive to win the round. One catch in Cyber Attack is that players have the chance to revive each other.
Instead of dying immediately when their health reaches zero, the player will be downed unlike other multiplayer game modes and the team will be able to revive them. Also, the bomb will act as a third weapon for the carrying player rather than replacing their weapons entirely.
This makes the game have higher stakes than usual as death might not be as swift as in other games. Also, both teams are simultaneously playing the defender and/or attacker in this game mode. As such, the bomb can be disarmed and the round won’t end, contrary to Search and Destroy.
Instead, the round could continue if the time limit hasn’t run out. This is because there are two main ways to win a round in the game. You either have to successfully detonate the bomb at the enemy data center or eliminate all of the enemy players.
What is strange about Cyber Attack is that you can have a draw where the time simply runs out without either objective happening. In this case, both teams will get one point. Teams need to get five round points to win the entire match.
In the case of Cyber Attack Pro, there is a major twist that players will need to keep in mind. It is a simple twist where there is no reviving your teammates in the rounds. Instead, there are respawns available from the start of the match.
As such, Activision recommends that players strike a balance between completing the bomb objective and eliminating your enemies. It is likely that in this version, you can’t win by eliminating opponents since both teams may have respawns available to them.
Therein lies the “pro” aspect to it as you need to focus on the objective of detonating or disabling the bomb before the time for the round runs out. If you like objective-based game modes like this one, you should certainly check out Cyber Attack Pro while it is still in the game for a limited time.
Modern Warfare/Warzone Double XP Weekend and Plunder Blood Money
To be the Warzone’s new game mode for a limited time, Plunder Blood Money will continue to be offered in the battle royale title for a while. This twist on the standard Plunder game mode is interesting and shakes up the usual formula.
Normally in Plunder, players have a less survival-focused experience that isn’t battle royale but still takes place on the same Verdansk map. Players’ job is to be the team at the end of the game with the most money in their possession.
Gaining money can be completed through various tasks like looting it off of the ground or in chests, completing contracts, and taking it from players. The Blood Money variant of the game mode takes the stakes even higher as you will get extra cash from certain objectives.
Players will get even more money from taking out enemies, completing the bounty contracts, or eliminating foes with a finishing move. This encourages an even more aggressive play style than in the normal Plunder game mode. It will only stick around for a limited time.
Also only here for a limited time is the second season of the Modern Warfare and Warzone battle pass. To accompany the encroaching end date for this season, there will be a final season two Modern Warfare and Warzone double XP weekend that will happen this upcoming weekend.
With many players already at home, this is a great way to get in there and get those last remaining battle pass tiers completed before the season comes to an end. Since progression is shared between the two games, the Modern Warfare and Warzone double XP weekend will be for both.
Jump into your favorite game and mode and you can expect to enjoy some double experience for everything including your general level, double weapon XP, and even double battle pass tier progression earn rate. The Modern Warfare and Warzone double XP weekend will begin this Friday, April 3 at 10 am PT and end on Monday, April 6 at 10 am PT.
Call of Duty Mobile Launches a New Season
Just like Modern Warfare and Warzone will have their new season coming up real soon, there is another game in the franchise that is also getting its next season. That game is the mobile iteration of the series, Call of Duty Mobile.
The new season of the game has been announced and will be arriving this week. Known as the Call of Duty Mobile Steel Legion season, it will be kicking off tomorrow, Wednesday, April 1 and give players something to immediately look forward to in the new month.
As with any new season of battle pass, the new Call of Duty Mobile Steel Legion season will include some new maps to play on and new game modes to check out. For now, though, we only have some of the details regarding the upcoming season as we are sure to find out more tomorrow.
But we do know a little bit of the new details including the new Meltdown map for the Steel Legion season that is, strangely enough, already available in the game for play. It is the return of a classic map from Black Ops 2 and it has been recreated in this excellent mobile game.
Accompanying the release of that classic Black Ops 2 map is a rather Black Ops-centric new battle pass. The Steel Legion battle pass will focus heavily on the famous Treyarch sub-series and feature players collecting two characters from the games.
Those two new soldiers that you can play as are David Mason, son of Alex Mason, from Black Ops 2 and Reaper, one of the specialists and an experimental war robot from Black Ops 3. Players will also find themselves the Steel Legion Magmacomb camo weapons in the new battle pass.
To join the new map, there will be a new game mode in the form of 2v2 Showdown. This new game mode is a duos-focused one where they face off in a round-based brawl to the death. Similar to Gunfight in Modern Warfare, players will have predetermined, randomized loadouts in every round.
Also, your health will not regenerate during the rounds, so make every life that you have count. To win the round, you must eliminate the other team or capture the overtime flag. The first team to win five rounds in the game will win the match.
Lastly, we know that there will be new ranked rewards to accompany the reset progression. Players who reach the coveted Rank Master I tier will earn some sweet rewards for either multiplayer or battle royale. For those in multiplayer, they will get the Man-O-War assault rifle while battle royale players will get the Donnie “Ruin” Walsh soldier option.
Black Ops 4 Playlist Update
Finally, we come to Black Ops 4, which is still going strong at this point with its weekly update when it comes to the playlists that will be available to players in its three core game modes. First off, multiplayer will have some updated playlists to check out including one with that always welcome double XP.
The playlists available this week in Black Ops 4 include double experience Infected: Final Stand, Nuketown, Barebones Moshpit, Bolt-Action Barebones Moshpit, and Mercenary Deathmatch Moshpit.
This is followed by the updated playlist for Blackout battle royale, which is largely the same as previous weeks. The playlists are Hot and Heavy (Hot Pursuit and Heavy Metal Heroes), Alcatraz Portals quads, quads, duos, and solos game modes.
Last but certainly not least, the Zombies playlist is getting updated this week with its game variant to check out. The updated singular playlist this week for Black Ops 4 Zombies mode is IX. Beyond those games, there isn’t anything new announced for the Call of Duty League beyond some team profiles and Warzone streams from the players.
