Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Invitational Set for Jakarta
ONE Championship’s subsidiary ONE Esports announced a major Invitational event for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang this morning, which will be set in Jakarta. Just how serious is this Invitational? How does $150,000 sound? Yeah, that’s what we figured too.
When Does It Begin?
The Online regional qualifiers for this competition begin on May 2, with the finals taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from July 1-5. So, it’s going to be a pretty intense competition, we think. SEA as a region is a huge hot spot for esports, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is big down there.
We’re glad to see the first of these two major tournaments for the mobile title. These are in collaboration with ONE Esports and Moonton for the year 2020. We don’t know the venue for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Invitational, but we do know it’s going to be massive.
Lucas Mao, director of operations of Moonton, talked about this competition. “We are really excited about this collaboration with ONE Esports. Their track record in producing story-driven sports production gives us the confidence to go into a longer collaboration where we will feature not one but two regional invitational tournaments in 2020. We wholly believe that this partnership with ONE Esports will further expedite our long-term goal of building a sustainable and dynamic esports ecosystem.”
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is still a new MOBA, debuting back in 2016. In that time, more than 500 million players have joined in, and it’s certainly popular in this region. Need proof? It was a part of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which we talked about not too long ago!
The Mobile Legends Professional League is hot in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, so I have a feeling we’re going to see some of the best of the best take part when this goes down later in the Spring. Sure, it’s not a Tencent giant game, but it’s still very popular in the region. Plus, we love to see companies help their esports scene grow.
Maybe Nintendo could learn a lesson from Moonton. Registration for the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Invitational opens on April 5, and there will be a few qualifiers. May 2-3 in Singapore, Indonesia, then the next stop is the Philippines and Malaysia, from May 9-10. Finally, there’s Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos on May 16-17.
It sounds like there will be Offline Qualifiers too, but we have no idea on the locations and dates for these. But as soon as we know, you will as well! We love to see it. Mobile esports is just as valid and intense as PC and console esports, and this should prove it. But $150K in prizes? That ought to draw plenty of eyes.
