Marvel MMORPG is Reportedly in The Works With Dimensional Ink’s Help
Dimensional Ink Games, the studio behind DC Universe Online, is currently working on an unannounced Marvel MMORPG. This was revealed during a recent investor presentation and, needless to say, it comes as quite a surprise. Then again, the more you think about it the more it makes sense — Marvel’s intellectual properties are more popular than ever, so why not capitalize on all the hype?
Better yet, the project will be led by none other than Jack Emmert, Dimensional Ink’s CEO and a seasoned dev who designed City of Heroes. There’s arguably no better man for the job, so this is definitely a promising sign.
Temper the Hype
The game’s still a ways off, though. We’re probably not going to hear anything about it for a while, but we do know that there’s a working prototype and that development is coming along nicely. So, if you happen to be a fan of DCUO, you definitely have something to look forward to! According to the aforementioned investor presentation, the Marvel MMORPG is listed as a long-term project. The upcoming DCUO expansion, on the other hand, is scheduled to launch in 2023 and is categorized as a “medium-term project.”
So, based on this nomenclature, we can surmise that the Marvel-based MMORPG isn’t going to come before 2024 — at the earliest. Be that as it may, it’s obvious that the folks working on it are hyped beyond measure; it’s fair to assume that it’ll be a labor of love, much like DC Universe Online, a game that, while definitely flawed, still has a fairly dedicated playerbase.
In any case, you should definitely temper your expectations as we’re still multiple years away from its release. Many things can change in the meantime (in both good ways and bad), but at least we know what’s coming our way and can (slowly but surely) start building the hype!
