It seems that the release of Mario Golf Super Rush came and went, with the game launching in June of this year, and then players moved on from the title afterward. Nintendo didn’t forget about the title however, and they’re looking to expand upon Mario Golf Super Rush even more, by adding a new course, as well as a new character to the game. 

So, what was added to the game with this free update? Nintendo showed off a clip of the new update on twitter revealing that multiple things were being added to the game. For one, the game is getting a Ranked mode, meaning that players are going to be able to compete in ranked golfing games, The ranked mode is separated by 4 specific rankings similar to Splatoon 2’s ranking system, with a rank for every game mode. For super rush player’s ranks are chosen for button controls or motion controls, as they’re separate ranks, then a rank for either speed golf or regular golf exists as well, having a ranking mode for every kind of playstyle in the game. Players who reach rank A- before the first rank reset will also be given the option to choose the color of Yoshi when playing as him, letting players pick from Green, Red, Blue, or Yellow. 

Also added in this update is a new course taking place in New Donk City from Mario Odyssey, this new course will have players hitting their golf balls down the street, missing tall buildings, as well as other obstacles like Taxis parked on the road. It also looks like there will be more configurations to the New Donk City course, seeing that the environment is almost exact to its depiction in Super Mario Odyssey. 

The game is going to include a new character as well, and this character is Toadette, while it doesn’t look like she’s dressed up to golf like Toad is, she brings in a new super move and super dash to the game, with her super shot being the Super Pixaxe stinger. Toadette will replace her club with the super pickaxe, something that she used in Super Mario Maker 2, with the pickaxe now equipped, she’ll hit the ball, sending it down the range, knocking over any balls in the way. Toadettes new Dash will have her throwing turnips left-right and in front of her, the turnips looking just like they did in Super Mario Brother 2, being hit by the turnips or Toadette while she’s running will knock other players over, if the strategy is applied, using Toadettes dash could be a devastating attack on other players. 

The final addition to the game is a fix for the motion controls, Nintendo’s plan was to improve the motion controls for the game, making them feel more precise, this was most likely done as the implementation of the ranked mode in the game is made for players who use both button and Motion controls, as playing the game with a mix of the two would put player’s who use button controls at a disadvantage. 

It seems like this is only going to be the beginning for Mario Golf Super Rush’s content, seeing that the game is going to include more characters into the game, perhaps a fan-favorite character like Toadsworth should return to the game, seeing that he was a player in some of the other Mario Sports titles.
