Manchester City Reveals FIFA Online Team in South Korea
In my time covering MMOs and Mobile MMOs, I’ve had a lot of dealings with Nexon. I had no idea they had a successful FIFA title. Manchester City, in partnership with Nexon, is the first football club to have a FIFA Online 4 team. Their goal is to find the country’s best up and coming esports talent. Their name? Man City Esports Korea.
Man City Esports Korea Stands Tall
Man City Esports Korea stood tall over 1,300 other teams in a nationwide FIFA Online 4 tournament. If I had doubts before over the popularity of the game, those have dispelled.
As a result, Man City Esports Korea won an opportunity to represent the Premier League champions on this major esports stage. In the 2019/20 season, the trio of Seo Jun Yeol, Kim Yoo Min and Kim Sung Hoon will participate in FIFA Online 4 tournaments.
It includes the EA Champions Cup in May 2020. It is a fantastic opportunity to show off the strength of the Man City team and create new opportunities for fans of FIFA, as well as FIFA Online 4.
Serious Football Action
Commenting on their new role, Seo Jun Yeol said to Mancity.com:
“We’re so excited to win this tournament and join the Premier League champions. Manchester City is one of the biggest clubs in South Korea so it will be an honor to represent them in our country. We can’t wait to get started!”
Manchester City is building on their present esports scene, where they had FIFA players representing them around the world. South Korea was not their only first, though. Man City can add China to countries where they were the first Premier League club to launch a FIFA Online team.
It’s fantastic to see esports grow in other genres. I had no idea just how big FIFA Online is. Now. I have a much better idea of how serious this is. The Nexon Arena held the semi-final and grand finals where the top FIFA players gathered.
Wnners took home prizes, while the nation of South Korea watched on YouTube, Twitch, AfreecaTV, Naver and SPOTV Games. I would love to see the numbers of how many people tuned in. Based on how many teams were a part of this tournament, I’m betting they were colossal.
The partnership between Man City and Nexon began last year. It seems to be bearing some pretty serious fruit. There is seriously no limit to what Nexon can do in the South Korean market and bringing Man City there is incredible.
I can’t wait to see what this tournament holds in 2020.
