Magic World Championship 2019 Invite Requirements Revealed
Though it has taken quite some time, Wizards of the Coast has officially unveiled the overall requirements for getting a Magic World Championship 2019 invite. For the most part, players and fans have been out of the loop about how invites work this year as well as the Mythic points system.
How to Get a World Championship 2019 Invite
Thankfully, we now have a clear understanding of how the championship event will work and how hopeful players can get an invite to the tournament. To begin with, there will be 16 players who will be participating in the Magic World Championship 2019.
At this time, we don’t know much about how the tournament itself will be organized and divided up, but we do know how players can get invited for a spot in it.. Of those 16 players, one of them has been known and decided since the end of the previous World Championship.
The winner of the Magic World Championship 2018 last year, Javier Dominguez, received an automatic invite to the next tournament that will be held this year where Dominguez will defend his championship title against 15 other professional players vying for a chance at the throne.

In addition to the honor and fame as the World Champion in Magic: The Gathering across both the physical card game and digital game, players have the chance to compete for a massive prize pool with a total of $1 million in prizes that will be divided up between the participants based on the results.
But current World Champion Javier Dominguez isn’t the only person that we know will be at the tournament later this year. There are three other players who have qualified for the tournament already, bringing the current invites to four players in total thus far.
Pre-Qualified Pros
Those three other skilled players are Autumn Burchett, Eli Loveman, and Matias Leveratto. All three of these players won one of the first three Mythic Championship tournaments that happened earlier this year and, therefore, got an automatic Magic World Championship 2019 invite.
Burchett and Loveman both won one of the first two Mythic Championship tournaments earlier this year, in which they competed against other players in the tabletop game itself. The two players won those tournaments and secured their Magic World Championship 2019 invite.
For Matias Leveratto, he won the recent Mythic Championship III that took place just a few weeks ago near the end of June in Las Vegas, Nevada during the same weekend as one of the MagicFest events. There, players competed in the first ever Mythic Championship to feature MTG Arena only.
That, in turn, was the biggest competition to date for the recently released digital version of the card game that came out in open beta late last year. It won’t be the only competition to feature Arena, though, as there are two more tournaments that will feature it before the World Championship.
There are seven Mythic Championship tournaments planned for this year, with four more on the way soon. Of those four, two of them will be focused on MTG Arena and the other two will be primarily the tabletop game. As such, there are four more spots that will be handed out at those events.
The winners of the next four Mythic Championship tournaments will be given a Magic World Championship 2019 invite. With those invites, that will bring the total number of invited players to eight thus far. Then, the top four Magic Pro League players with the most Mythic points will be invited.
Last but not least, the top four challengers, as Wizards of the Coast calls them, with the most Mythic points will be given a chance to compete on the world stage. The situation with the Mythic points system is complicated this year as it replaces the Pro Points that we understood previously.
How Players Can Earn Mythic Points
There are numerous ways that a player can earn points if they are one of the pro players in the Magic Pro League. Those players get points each week during the MPL Weekly competitions as well as the Grand Prix tournaments that coincide with the MagicFest events this summer.
As for the “challengers” who aren’t part of the Magic Pro League, their best bet for earning Mythic points is through the Mythic Championship tournaments that are taking place this year. Players get points based on their placement in the tournaments there.
This can seem counterproductive since the seven winners of those tournaments are automatically invited to the World Championship. However, those players will certainly get the most points out of everyone there but since they already have an invite, the invite will go to the next person with the most points.
The complicated issue with the Mythic points is what the “point” of the whole system is beyond providing invites for players to the World Championship. That is a situation that won’t likely be resolved anytime soon. But there is still some time to qualify for attending a Mythic Championship tournament.
The process for being invited to one of the four remaining Mythic Championship tournaments is met through multiple ways. The first is by being a top finisher at a Mythic Championship Qualifier event but that situation is also complicated since some qualifying events have disappeared.
In addition to that, Magic Online players get some love in that winning one of the championship series on there will grant them the chance to compete in one of the Mythic Championship events. Then if you are a top finisher during the Grand Prix, you will qualify for the qualifier event.
Then if you are part of the Pro Players Club, you will get an invite, too. The final method of being invited to the next Mythic Championship tournament is by finishing with at least 33 points or more at the previous Mythic Championship event.
Mythic Championship IV Date and Location
Fans can look forward to the next Mythic event very soon. In fact, Mythic Championship IV will be taking place next week July 26-28 in Barcelona, Spain. It will feature the tabletop game as the tournament format and the winner will receive a Magic World Championship 2019 invite.
At this time, we don’t know the exact date or location of the World Championship this year other than it will be taking place at the end of this year in December.
