LoL Ruination Event Potentially Coming With Patch 11.4

by in League of Legends | Jun, 10th 2021

The upcoming Ruination event will no doubt leave a lasting mark on LoL, and, frankly, we can’t wait to see what Riot has in store! It is, in many ways, one of the biggest moments in League history — a moment that has been in the works for quite a long time. It spans many different regions, timelines, and champions. We know that Riot has been working around the clock to deliver an experience unlike any other.

Viego, the Ruined King has made a splash on the Summoner’s Rift (although partly because of his buggy nature). Ruination — the event itself — will happen simultaneously across Riot’s impressive line-up, including Legends of Runeterra, Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics, and, of course, LoL. Heck, there’s even a full-fledged game coming out that’ll provide us with yet another unique angle on Ruination and the many ways in which it will affect the world of Runeterra.

When Is Ruination Coming to LoL?

Details were fairly scarce up to this point. We had a slew of TBAs from Riot and not much else — until now. A couple of crafty data miners have unearthed a bunch of files that point towards a Ruined King game mode that will supposedly ship to live servers alongside patch 11.14.

And, naturally, what would a historic event be if it didn’t leave a mark on the Summoner’s Rift as well? Once this game mode hits, the Rift as we know it will change completely. The entire color palette will shift to a more ominous one, in line with the Ruination and Shadow Isles color schemes. Dragons, Barons, and even shopkeepers will be affected, too! All in all, we’re talking about a very thorough shift in tone and ambiance, one that will surely come as a breath of fresh air!

Add to that a bunch of event-specific sound effects. You get a very chilling atmosphere — one that is wholly in line with what everyone’s expecting from an event as horrific and ghastly as the Ruination! If our assumptions are correct, Riot will ship all of this (and a whole lot more) on July 8 once patch 11.14 hits. This, in turn, means that we’re bound to get additional information over the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned!
