LoL Players Have Raised More Than $7 Million For Charity With Ornn Skin Fundraiser

by in League of Legends | Apr, 23rd 2021

It took Riot over three long years to create another skin for Ornn, but it’s definitely been worth the wait — the global LoL community rallied behind a good cause and has raised more than $7 million for charity! That’s about as wholesome and positive as it gets! This impressive sum of money will go directly into the Riot Games Social Impact Fund — Riot’s “philanthropic venture” aimed at supporting numerous global organizations who are “solving some of the world’s most pressing issues.”

Breaking Donation Records

Perhaps the most impressive thing about this whole endeavor is the fact that such a staggering sum was raised in just one month— from December 10, 2020 to January 11, 2021 to be more exact. The previous $6 million record set by Dawnbringer Karma (2019’s charity skin) has therefore been broken — all thanks to an ancient Freljordian blacksmith and thousands of humane and philanthropic individuals!

We can only imagine how big that number could get if Riot were to create a skin for one of LoL’s more popular champions — think Zed, Yasuo, Lux, or Lee Sin. That would surely smash all records! Hopefully, Riot has something of that sort planned for 2021!

All in all, this is yet another wholesome reminder of the truly remarkable things the gaming community can accomplish — especially if it rallies behind the same goal! Riot deserves a ton of credit as well. They’re changing the world (at least ever so slightly) in the best and most effective way they can: through action and charitable work. So far over $15 million have been donated to a host of different charities, and we hope that this tradition will carry on into the future as well.

After all, there’s no shortage of good causes and people who need every bit of help they can get.
