League of Legends Wild Rift Patch 2.1 Preview

by in League of Legends | Feb, 1st 2021

If you’re as enamored with League of Legends: Wild Rift as we are, then you’re in for a treat — Riot has just unveiled their plans for the next couple of months! And, needless to say, they’re quite exciting! We’ve been given a glimpse into patch 2.1 which will last from February to the end of March. So everything you read down below will be released and shipped to live servers throughout that period.

Now that we’ve gotten that little introduction out of the way, let’s begin!

Replays and Spectator Mode — February 2021

First of all, Wild Rift patch 2.1 will finally allow you to rewatch your last 50 games. The whole experience is pretty much exactly the same as in regular League, which means you can relive your mind-blowing outplays or, conversely, the moments when things went awry. Replays will feature a brand-new HUD that’ll show both teams’ items, spells, gold, and a host of other things as well.

Replays can be accessed from either your Match History page or the post-game screen. Timeskipping currently isn’t supported, but you can still speed things up (ranging from 0.5x to 8x speed). Finally, your existing replays will always expire with each new patch, so keep that in mind!

Now you can rewatch your pentas in all their glory

Spectator Mode is also self-explanatory — you’ll now be able to spectate your friends’ matches with a click of a button! There’s a three minute delay (to preserve competitive integrity and avoid any spoilers), with custom games having three spectator slots and no delay whatsoever. To actually spectate someone, you need to be friends with that player.

Champions Galore

Wild Rift patch 2.1 brings with it a bevy of new champions! First of all, Xayah and Rakan will be hitting the Rift in just a couple of days, with Katarina, Leona, Diana, and Pantheon joining the fray in mid/March! This means that Wild Rift will have 63 champions by the end of Q1 2021 — quite an impressive number, all things considered!

With around five new champions per patch, it seems like Riot plans on achieving near full feature (and champion) parity by mid-2022 (give or take). A lofty goal, but an attainable one nonetheless!

New Events & Skins

The Lunar Beast event is scheduled to begin in just a couple of days, followed with the Path of Ascension event that’s slated to begin in March! The latter of the two will celebrate the inclusion of the four Targon champions listed above. As always, Riot will almost surely allow players to unlock each champion by completing fairly simple missions — much like they did with Darius and Draven, Wukong, and the five Yordle champions that were released mere weeks ago.

And if you happen to be into in-game cosmetics, then you’ll be elated to find out that a whopping 13 skins will be released throughout the patch! This includes Lunar Beast Alistar, Lunar Beast Annie

Lunar Beast Darius, Lunar Beast Fiora, Lunar Beast Jarvan IV, Lunar Beast Miss Fortune, Panda Teemo, Cosmic Dawn Rakan, Cosmic Dusk Xayah, Heartseeker Vayne, Sweetheart Rakan, Sweetheart Sona, and Sweetheart Xayah.

Either way, there’s a lot to look forward to! If you want to go over the patch in a more official manner (along with the many balance changes that’ll ship over the next couple of days), then make sure to head over to Riot’s official website!
