League of Legends Patch 9.15 Breakdown

by in General | Aug, 1st 2019

Two weeks have passed, which means we have yet another set of balance changes to go over — this time it’s League of Legends patch 9.15! After the chaos that patch 9.14 brought, Riot is releasing a rather un-impactful set of adjustments. These changes are by no means monumental, but are instead aimed at specific champions. Some of them are competitive mainstays, while others rarely see any play time. Regardless, if you play any of these champions on a frequent basis, make sure to check out the changes listed below.

So without any further ado, let’s start our League of Legends patch 9.15 breakdown!

Buffs

There are many buffs shipping this time around. That said, they’re mostly unimpactful and negligible. If you want to find a certain champion, you can always use the page search function (CTRL + F, or CMD + F if you’re a Mac user).

Galio

Riot definitely nerfed Galio to the ground. They’re shipping buffs now, but it’s highly questionable whether or not they’ll be enough to bring him back to life. He’s barely a champion right now, and that’s a problem.

Going forward, his passive “Colossal Smash” will do more damage (from 150-180 to 15-200, depending on champion level), and it’ll have a five-second cooldown which will be affected by CDR, instead of just five seconds at all ranks.

Finally, his E “Justice Punch” will do a bit more damage. And we really do mean a bit. From 80/120/160/200/240 to 90/130/170/210/250.

Graves

Graves is basically non-existent currently as a pick. To bring him up a bit, Riot is increasing the armor per stack amount his E “Quickdraw” provides — from 5/7.5/10/12.5/15 to 8/11/14/17/20.

Kha’Zix

Riot is increasing the base damage on Kha’Zix’s Q “Taste Their Fear” from 50/75/100/125/150 to 60/85/110/135/160. Not a huge change, but it should be noticeable, especially when it comes to his early game clear.

LeBlanc

The base root damage on LeBlanc’s E “Ethereal Chains” is going up from 60/90/120/150/180 to 70/110/150/190/230. Riot wants to increase the reward LeBlanc players will get by landing the ability, but whether or not this change will really pan out as they want to still remains to be seen.

Lee Sin

Lee Sin is not exactly a powerhouse in most elos, so Riot’s shipping a couple of buffs that should make him a less punishing pick to the many players who aren’t mechanical deities.

Going forward, both aspects of his Q “Sonic Wave/Resonating Strike” will deal more damage. Sonic Wave will now deal 55/80/105/130/155 instead of 50/75/100/125/150 damage. Furthermore, the minimum damage amount of Resonating Strike will now be 55/80/105/130/155 instead of 50/75/100/125/150, as well as its maximum damage (from 100/150/200/250/300 to 110/160/210/260/310).

Lissandra

Lissandra has been nerfed quite a lot in recent history. Such a momentous hit to her power seriously impacted her overall strength and as a result she’s rarely picked — especially in competitive play.

To counteract this, Riot is buffing her base stats (her base health went from 518 to 550, along with her base health growth from 87 to 90) as well as her ultimate “Frozen Tomb” which will now have a 75% AP ratio instead of 60%.

Lucian

Lucian’s late game damage drop-off is more than noticeable. Riot wants to make him a bit stronger and are upping the base damage numbers on his ultimate “The Culling.” It will now deal 20/40/60 damage per shot instead of 20/35/50.

Malphite

Riot’s recent patch 9.14 Malphite buffs weren’t as impactful as they had hoped. So this time around, they’re shipping yet another set of changes.

Going forward, his Q “Seismic Shard” will slow for more (from 15/20/25/30/35% to 20/25/30/35/40%) and his W “Thunderclap” will deal more base cleave damage (from 20/35/50/65/80 to 30/45/60/75/90).

Poppy

Going forward, Poppy’s W “Steadfast Presence” will grant her 40% bonus movement speed instead of 35%. Not a humongous buff, but it should be noticeable regardless.

Qiyana

Qiyana is receiving a couple of changes in patch 9.15. First of all, her W “Terrashape” will now longer empower her blade with the River enchantment if you’re playing her in Howling Abyss. Her E “Audacity will now only damage targets that are within the 250 range of the ability.

Finally, her ultimate “Supreme Display of Talent” will now scale with levels. It will have a 120/100/80 second cooldown, instead of just a flat 100 seconds amount.

Soraka

Soraka is pretty much non-existent right now. To bring her up a bit, Riot is increasing the damage on her Q “Starcall.” It will now deal 75/110/145/180/215 damage instead of 60/95/130/165/200. This is a noticeable buff, especially if you’re the aggressive type of Soraka player who’s looking to skirmish and poke as much as possible.

Swain

This one is quick and simple. Riot is reverting the bolt range on Swain’s Q “Death’s Hand” back to 725 (from 625).

Syndra

As the game goes on, it becomes much harder for Syndra to actually get in range and ult someone. The range is simply not that big and yet if she puts herself in danger she’s probably going to get eradicated in a split second. In order to reward aggressive play and (slight) risk taking, Riot is increasing the base damage from each ultimate sphere (from 90/135/180 to 90/140/190).

Vayne

Vayne is getting a strange (an unnecessary) buff to her E “Condemn.” Going forward, the wall hit damage will proc instantly (instead of after the knock lands) and will land 150% of its damage (instead of 100%). This is not exactly something players have been clamoring for, but seeing how her E is one of the most skill-expressive aspects of her kit, it makes sense to up the reward.

Xerath

Riot is increasing the range on his ultimate “Rite of the Arcane” to 5000 on all three levels (instead of 3200/4400/5600). This makes sense seeing how his identity as a long-range mage isn’t always fully realized.

Nerfs

Unlike the buffs section, Riot only shipped three (somewhat) simple nerfs this time around.

Evelynn

Riot wants to slow down Evelynn’s early game clear speed so they’re hitting the cooldown refund amount (from 60% when hitting monsters to 50%) on her Q “Hate Spike.”

Karma

Seeing how Karma is currently running rampant in multiple positions (perhaps mainly in competitive play), Riot is lowering the bonus shield her (empowered) E “Defiance” will provide — from 30/90/150/210 (+0.6 AP) to 25/80/135/190 (+0.5 AP).

Rumble

Much like Karma, Rumble is currently a bit too strong, especially in competitive play. Because of this, Riot is hitting his W “Scrap Shield.” Going forward, it will shield for less (base amount is going down from 100/130/160/190/220 to 80/110/140/170/200), as well as the empowered shield amount (from 150/195/240/285/330 to 120/165/210/255/300).

Upcoming Skins & Chromas

As with every new patch, Riot is releasing a metric ton of cosmetic goodies. This time around, there are five spectacular new skins along with yet another Prestige skin — PROJECT: Pyke, Irelia, Jinx, Akali, Warwick, and Irelia Prestige Edition.
