New League of Legends Champion Yuumi Teased
Three months have passed since Sylas’ release, and we already have yet another quick tease of the latest addition to the ever-growing League of Legends roster. This time, Riot is teasing the new League of Legends champion Yuumi! You can check out the first teaser “Book of Thresholds” below!
Instead of a bruiser-esque mage hell-bent on revenge, we’re getting a playful, child-like feline! What we know for certain is that the new champion Yuumi is an enchanter support who’s always on the lookout for an adventure.
Based on the video, we can fairly assume that she comes from Bandle city and is currently on her way towards Icathia. Yuumi can’t return back to Badle city (for an unknown reason), and she’s currently looking for her master. The book itself also seems to understand Yuumi and has a conscience of its own.
While it’s still too early to fairly predict what the new champion Yuumi will have kit-wise, we do have a leaked image showing us not only her portrait but also four of her ability icons.
The art for her Q looks like a projectile that could possibly slow, something like Rakan’s “Gleaming Quill.” Her W looks like a pounce of sorts, but it could, by all means, turn out to be something else entirely. Her E, on the other hand, looks like a heal, which would be a solid guess seeing how she still needs to provide protection and utility to her AD carry.
What her ultimate will end up doing is anyone’s guess. There’s a small book on the ability icon which could end up being the same tome from the video above. We’re light on information right now, but one thing is for certain — Riot is surely preparing something highly specific for her kit.
There is a leaked explanation for each of her abilities, but it’s completely unconfirmed at this point. Regardless, it does seem plausible, so if you’re the one who likes theorycrafting, dive in!
Every champion in recent history has a unique ability within their kit. Sylas can steal opposing ultimates, Neeko has a very specific form of camouflage, Pyke has an execute, Kai’Sa turned the AD carry concept on its head, and Zoe is… Well, Zoe. Riot is really trying to upset the status quo with each and every new champion release, and while that’s far from a bad thing, there’s a very palpable side-effect to such an approach.
As a result, almost every recent champion has far too much utility within their kit. In other words, they often end up a bit overpowered. Every champion listed above became a meta mainstay, with the sole exception being Neeko. Then again, it feels like teams still haven’t figured out the best and most optimal way to utilize her.
Riot always releases a brief overview just days after the initial tease, so we should be getting a lot more information sooner rather than later.
