Konami To Miss Out On E3 2021
Konami will not be making an appearance at E3 2021 due to “bad timing.” This, in short, is quite depressing news, but it’s not entirely bewildering given the current state of the world and the amount of pressure game developers are under — creating complex video games in today’s remote-heavy world isn’t exactly the most efficient way of doing things. The bigger the undertaking the more complex the development process, so it’s easy to understand why Konami couldn’t handle the logistics of showcasing their work at E3 2021 given the circumstances.
Konami & E3 2021 | A Missed Opportunity
The company has only released a short statement on the matter:
“Due to timing we will not be ready to present at E3 this year. We want to reassure our fans that we are in deep development on a number of key projects, so please stay tuned for some updates in the coming months.”
A blanket PR statement, no doubt, but it’s still sufficient. This means that of the eight originally announced companies, we’re down to seven; Capcom, Microsoft, Nintendo, Take-Two, Warner Bros, Ubisoft, and Koch Media are all still expected to participate.
At the very least, we know Konami is hard at work, although what exactly they’re working on still remains to be seen. Pro Evolution Soccer is a pretty safe guess, but there were rumors of new Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill installments, so there are definitely many ways in which Konami could surprise us. Moreover, they’re supposedly looking to reinvigorate their gaming division and start churning out next-gen releases. Hopefully we’ll get to see what they’ve been working on in the near future!
Despite this bad news, E3 2021 is still bound to deliver in all the right ways — with Konami or without them — so make sure to tune in! This year’s Electronic Entertainment Experience is scheduled for June 12—15 and we’ll be able to watch it all unfold free of charge!
