Immortals Roster Supposedly Finalized
Many fans across the globe celebrated once Immortals announced that they would re-enter the North American LCS with a new roster. A lot of us wondered how the Immortals roster would end up looking. Which players would the organization sign? Or, perhaps even more importantly, which players would they keep?
It was a well-known fact that they would retain a good number of player contracts from OpTic Gaming. But, the 2019 OpTic line-up wasn’t all that great. Sure, they had great moments, and certain parts of their roster worked well (jungle and mid, primarily), but they weren’t impressive. They were a solid, talented five-man line-up that could throw down with the best teams the LCS had to offer. However, they lacked the potential to challenge the status quo.
After weeks many rumors, it seems we finally know who’ll play for the Immortals come 2020.
What Will the Immortals LCS Roster Look Like Next Season?
The organization is supposedly finalizing contracts with Paul “sOAZ” Boyer (of Origen and Fnatic fame), Johnny “Altec” Ru, and support player Nickolas “Hakuho” Surgent, known for his stellar play for Team EnVyUs, Clutch Gaming and, most recently, Echo Fox. We know they signed Jake “Xmithie” Puchero, which means the Immortals roster is fully finalized at this point.
This line-up is strange. There’s no other way to put it, frankly. There’s quite a fair bit of potential, but it’s a confusing mix of veterans. On one hand, there’s a lot to like. SOAZ is still at the top of his game (we’ll collectively forget his Misfits Gaming tenure). Hakuho has been horrendously undervalued and underappreciated throughout his career, and yet is an absolute beast. Xmithie is one of the best junglers in the world. Altec, a name we haven’t heard in a while, is always solid, albeit somewhat limited in potential.
On the other hand, this mix doesn’t feel right. It’s good, but far from great and hype-inducing. You can see they assembled after a careful selection process, but it feels like something is missing. Perhaps it’s the fact that there is not one player who’s going to dominate beyond measure, no singular hard-carry who’s going to lead this team over the finish line.
They’re missing a mid laner, so there’s still a chance they could get top-tier talent. Perhaps Henrik “Froggen” Hansen? Or a Korean mid laner, seeing how they still have an import slot available. This Immortals LCS roster has some potential. They’re probably not going to blow anyone’s mind, but they have all the right tools to compete in the LCS and find a fair bit of success.
