IEM XVI Fall Canceled | Six IEM XVI Fall Regional Events Announced

by in CS:GO | Aug, 19th 2021

Yesterday, ESL announced their plans regarding the final round of RMR events. These events are the last chance for some teams to gain enough points to qualify for the PGL Major Stockholm this October. Instead of one global event, ESL decided to divide the competition into six IEM Fall regional events.

IEM Fall Regional Events

Here’s a look at how many participants each of the six IEM Fall regional events will have:

  • North America – 12 teams
  • South America – 4 teams
  • CIS – 12 teams
  • Asia – 4 teams
  • Oceania – 4 teams
  • Europe – 24 teams

The latter will be the only IEM Fall event scheduled for LAN. Five remaining competitions will be played online, unsurprisingly, considering all circumstances. However, the EU Fall RMR is scheduled for LAN doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll pan out that way. We’ve seen cancelations before, and ESL already suggested they will be attempting to return to LAN… It’s not official just yet!

The qualifiers for IEM Fall will kick off in late August and run through the middle of September. The closed qualifiers are scheduled for Sept. 12-16, with the main event set for Sept. 29-Oct. 10. The main event will feature $255,000 in prize money and whopping 2,500 RMR points.

Here’s a closer look at the schedule for all six IEM Fall regional events:

Europe

  • Aug. 28-29 — Open qualifier #1
  • Sept. 2-3 — Open qualifier #2
  • Sept. 4-5 — Open qualifier #3
  • Sept. 9-10 — Open qualifier #4
  • Sept. 14-16 — Closed qualifier
  • Sept. 29-Oct. 10 — Main event (potential LAN)

North America

  • Sept. 9-10 — Open qualifier #1
  • Sept. 11-12 — Open qualifier #2
  • Sept. 18-19 — Closed qualifier
  • Oct. 5-10 — Main event

CIS

  • Sept. 9-10 — Open qualifier #1
  • Sept. 11-12 — Open qualifier #2
  • Sept. 18-19 — Closed qualifier
  • Sept. 29-Oct. 3 — Main event

Asia

  • Sept. 9-10 — Open qualifier #1
  • Sept. 11-12 — Open qualifier #2
  • Sept. 17-19 — Closed qualifier
  • Oct. 5-10 — Main event

South America

  • Sept. 9-10 — Open qualifier #1
  • Sept. 11-12 — Open qualifier #2
  • Sept. 17-19 — Closed qualifier
  • Sept. 29-Oct. 3 — Main event

Oceania

  • Sept 9-10 — Open qualifier #1
  • Sept. 11-12 — Open qualifier #2
  • Sept. 17-19 — Closed qualifier
  • Sept. 29-Oct. 3 — Main event

Unfortunately, this news left some teams and their fans disappointed because most regions will have had only two RMR events to gain points from. South America and CIS are the only exceptions, putting pressure on some teams who had terrible outings on the first RMR. The most notable EU teams still below the qualifying spots are OG, Fnatic, and FaZe. Virtus.pro and Extra Salt are the most notable names in other regions.

All in all, the six IEM Fall regional events won’t lack excitement!
