IEM Chicago Recap, Trouble Blast Pro LA, More – CS:GO Daily Recap 7/22/2019
Welcome back to another exciting day of CS:GO news! Today we’ll be fielding an IEM Chicago recap, rumors of fake crowd sounds being pumped into Blast Pro LA, changes coming to BIG, and much more. As always we’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s dive on in.
IEM Chicago Recap
Starting the day off, we have a look at IEM Chicago and Team Liquid’s absolute domination of the event.
The team, now tied with Astralis for most LAN wins in a row at six apiece, put on a masterpiece during the tournament with an astounding 77-45 round score in the group stage. In a group filled with MIBR, Envy, and G2 Esports that’s a highly impressive scoreline to run, though the team did give up a map to G2.
The playoffs were even more of a stomp, with Liquid taking world number two Team Vitality down 16-11 on Dust II, and 16-9 on Overpass to sweep the Frenchmen and move on to the Grand Final.
There they faced Finnish powerhouse ENCE, who took out MIBR 2-1 in the other semifinal, in what can only be described as a “pubstomp” in the purest sense of the word. It was such a one-sided thrashing that it took ENCE three maps to even get to ten rounds won against Liquid, ten maps!
Liquid took it to the Finns 16-2 on Overpass before seemingly putting the final nail in the metaphorical coffin for ENCE on Nuke, where they went 16-3. ENCE finally put up a fight in the third game of the series, but it wasn’t enough as Liquid took the map and the final 16-14 on Inferno.
Outside of Liquid’s fantastic run, we also have to give props to MIBR, who managed to make playoffs despite fielding Zews in the roster.
Vitality also did well at the event but had an unfortunate group placement that forced them to take on Liquid in the semis as opposed to the finals matchup many thought we’d get.
Blasting Sound Pro LA
While all eyes were on Chicago this weekend, across the country Blast Pro was dealing with some PR trouble as a clip surfaced on Reddit showing what appeared to be fake crowd sound being pumped into the stream feed at BPLA.
With Blast Pro’s poor standing amongst the community, it seemed like the controversy was ripe for backlash. That backlash never came, however, as many attendees of the event quickly came to point out that, despite the small crowd, the event was indeed getting that loud at times.
The most likely cause for the sudden surge in volume during the stream was likely someone in production accidentally switching to the audio feed of a live mic near the audience at the wrong time.
Roster News
Outside of tournaments, we also got some literally BIG news this weekend, as german organization BIG is rumored to be making some changes to the team in the near future.
The decision to make changes was confirmed by their current analyst, and former team coach Kakafu on his stream the other day and comes after a disappointing run in the EU Minor that saw the team exit just ahead of last-place Team Ancient in the Group Stage.
He confirmed that Gob B will be leaving the roster following the performance, and will be replaced by former AWPer Smooya until Sprouts’ roster becomes available to pick players up from. Whether this will come as a merger of the two teams or just buying out their players remains to be seen. He also announced that Xantares will not be replaced.
That’s all we have for today, thanks for reading and we’ll see you tomorrow for more exciting CS:GO news.
