Everything You Need to Know About Call of Duty Mobile Zombies

Call of Duty Mobile released in October 2019 to a large portion of the world on mobile devices including iOS and Android after a lengthy period of beta testing. The free-to-play game version of the famous shooter franchise impressed by having a full suite of multiplayer options available.

Activision Finally Releases Zombies Mode for Call of Duty Mobile

Fans were happy with the generally good battle royale and traditional multiplayer experiences that are offered in the mobile title. However, one glaring omission in multiplayer that players have been requesting for sometime now is a Zombies mode.

In fact, the game itself teased a Zombies mode in the future as the third pillar besides multiplayer and battle royale. Well, we are happy to announce that it is available now and that players can unlock Call of Duty Mobile Zombies as you read this and play it.

The exciting release of this new mode is welcome but it is also met with some confusion. After all, you are only going to be able to play the mode after fulfilling some requirements in-game plus there are some strange limits to it as well. Without further ado, let’s jump right in and take a look at everything that you need to know about the new mode.

Surprise: Zombies Is Only Available for a Limited Time

Perhaps the most shocking part of the Zombies release is the timing surrounding it. Activision has revealed that the Zombies mode is only “available for a limited time.” Yes, you read that correctly. This mode will only be here for a period of time before going away.

That’s right, Activision is actually touting this new game mode as the third pillar of the mobile game but it won’t be sticking around as a permanent mode. Unfortunately, Activision also didn’t give a time on when the mode would be leaving the game but our guess is likely not until 2020.

If we had to guess, players will for sure be good until the end of this year and maybe the end of the current season for multiplayer. Regardless of when the mode leaves the game, players have it now and should try to take full advantage of it while it is still available.

How to Unlock Call of Duty Mobile Zombies

But before you can actually play through the new game mode and the various formats that it has available, you are going to need to unlock Call of Duty Mobile Zombies. You might be surprised to find this out but the mode will not be immediately available to all players when you log back in.

This is because there are some requirements that you must first meet before you are able to enjoy the new wave-based Zombies mode in the popular mobile first-person shooter game. Thankfully, though, the requirements aren’t too hard and will be familiar to anyone who has unlocked battle royale.

You will need to reach the player level of five before you can enjoy Zombies mode. This is similar to how you have to reach a certain level before you can enjoy battle royale but you should actually unlock Call of Duty Mobile Zombies before that mode.

This means that most players who have been enjoying the game since launch will likely already be level five and nothing to worry about. But if you’re a newer player who is only interested in Zombies mode, you will need to reach level five in multiplayer before you can play it.

Your best bet is to do a few matches of Team Deathmatch or any other multiplayer modes. We were able to reach level five in just a few matches by doing fairly well in the results. It shouldn’t take longer than an hour or two at the most to unlock Call of Duty Mobile Zombies.

Call of Duty Mobile Zombies Classic Survival Mode Explained

But unlocking the new Zombies mode is only the start for it. There is also the matter of actually playing through the game itself. As of now, there are two modes that are currently available in the mode. The two modes are Classic and Raid, allowing for two different ways of playing Zombies.

This is similar in a way to the console zombie experience where there is usually a story-based mode with lots of Easter eggs and the like, and then another mode that is solely dedicated to surviving for as long as you possibly can.

In this case, Classic mode is more akin to the survival mode that players can just enjoy over and over. The Survival mode is an endless horde mode where you can play as long as you possibly want. The game will just end when you want it end or if you and your teammates all die.

The Classic Survival mode is available for both players who wish to go it solo and try to survive on their own as well as for teams. There are reasons that you will want to survive for as long as possible, too, since there are rewards that you can get in this new Zombies mode.

Every three rounds of the Classic Survival mode that you survive alone or together with friends, you will earn a reward that will be given to you at the end of the game. Only five rewards can be earned per game that you do, meaning that you will want to survive 15 rounds to get the most rewards out of each match.

Even better yet, the later rounds of the match will give you even better rewards when you finish it. This is the traditional Zombies mode experience that veteran players will be accustomed to. This even includes the Easter eggs experience that players love Zombies for on console and PC.

That’s right, Easter eggs are totally back in the mobile iteration of the zombies experience and players will be able to unlock them per usual. No details were given on how the hidden secrets will work but you will likely have to find stuff and interact with things to unlock even more secrets.

Players will be able to enjoy the Easter eggs in the Classic Survival mode but there is another requirement here as well. You will only be able to solve the Easter eggs in the hardcore difficulty version of this mode. This will likely be a much harder version of the survival mode so we recommend that you gather together a great group of friends to complete it with.

Call of Duty Mobile Zombies Raid Mode Explained

The Classic Survival mode isn’t the only other mode that players are able to enjoy in the new Zombies mobile experience. There is also the new Raid mode that is totally different from what players have come to know. It is more of a tighter, more streamlined experience from the classic version.

If you are looking for a shorter experience in Zombies, such as not having enough time or just want some practice that will get you ready for surviving the most number of rounds in Classic, Raid mode might be for you. Here, you only do a set number of waves of zombies instead of it being endless.

You will face off through the waves until you finish all of them (or lose). If you are able to survive through all of the set rounds on the map, you will be rewarded with a final boss fight against the Abomination. This final boss is the last objective that you have to overcome in the Raid mode.

How many rounds that you have to survive in each Raid Zombies match all depends on which of the two difficulty versions that you select. You can choose to go through the normal difficulty or the heroic one. Normal only requires the player to survive eight rounds while heroic is 12 rounds

If you are in normal, you will face the Abomination boss after the eighth round or the 12th round if you are doing heroic mode. Rewards are given to players in the same way as Classic Survival with a reward given every three rounds plus better rewards for surviving the latter rounds.

As for the Abomination boss itself, players will be able to access it through a portal that opens up upon surviving the final round. Traveling through it will bring players face to face with a creature that has an ugly head and the body of a scorpion.

What is interesting, though, is that Abomination is not the only boss that players are able to defeat in the Raid mode. If you choose to try out the hardcore version of Raid mode, you will be able to find another hidden boss that is only in that version.

Like with the Classic Survival mode, you will be able to take on the Raid mode either alone or with your friends online. We only recommend that experienced players try out this mode by yourself as these boss battles will be difficult to complete solo.

Mobile Zombies Map and How to Play Zombies

At this time, there is only one map for players to play on in the Zombies mode and that is the Shi No Numa map. It is the only map that is used for both the Classic Survival and Raid modes. It is possible that later incarnations of Zombies in the future could have different maps.

But for now, there is only the Shi No Numa one. You may recognize this map if you are a Call of Duty veteran as it comes from a previous game. It was one of the downloadable maps that players could enjoy in World at War, which was the game that started the Zombies experience.

Shi No Numa returns in this mobile entry in the series, reworked and adapted for the mobile experience. The map is found deep within a sweltering jungle in Japan where the Rising Sun Facility houses a dark secret.

Run by the Group 935 and Division 9, the collection of huts here make up a remote village in the middle of nowhere. The swampy areas here were used for some sort of nefarious experiments and players will find themselves in the middle of a dangerous trap.

Playing on the Shi No Numa map allows for you to go through the journey alone or with up to three other players online. You and your teammates will begin each match with only a pistol and a knife to your name. These will be initially your only protection against the zombie hordes.

Taking damage isn’t permanent in this mode either as your health will start to regenerate after five seconds of not taking any more damage. The undead can appear through windows, which can be boarded up to slow them down and buy you some time like in the console versions of Zombies.

Boarding windows and killing zombies will give you points. Those points can be used for a variety of activities such as opening up new areas, purchasing weapons on the walls around the map, and refilling ammo for those weapons, too.

The mystery box also exists in this mode, allowing you to spend some points to get a weapon or equipment item at random. After using the mystery box a few times, it will disappear and reappear at a random location around the map.

Perk-a-Colas are available in this game mode, too. You can buy these at various perk machines and receive passive upgrades that will give you an advantage over the undead. The enchancement device is a new feature in the mobile iteration, offering upgradable boosts.

These include boost to damage, quicker reloads, and more. You are also able to buy coins that are active skills from the coin dispensers. These powerful abilities are capable of turning the tide of battle. Last but not least, you can get traps that are great for killing zombies.
