Houston Outlaws Overwatch League Finally Sold

by in General | Nov, 15th 2019

Months after acquiring the roster with their purchase of OpTic Gaming, Immortals Gaming Club has finally found a buyer as the Houston Outlaws sold to Beasley Media Group.

The team was initially going to Texas real estate investor Lee Zeiben for $40 million. The deal appears to have fallen through at the last minute. It is likely due to raising enough funds for both it and the North American org eUnited, he was also rumored to buy. No official reasoning was given at this time. The exact cost of how much Houston Outlaws sold for is currently unknown, as well.

Beasley Media Group

While you may have never heard of the Beasley Media Group, you’ve undoubtedly heard one of the brands before.

The company owns a slew of radio stations across the country, including Sunny 106.3 and ESPN Philadelphia and ranging from Bloomberg business news to talk shows.

They also started an esports radio venture last year called Checkpoint XP, which covers gaming and esports news, including a segment focused on high school and collegiate gamers.

It isn’t their first dealings with esports teams either. They invested more than $4.5 million into the Renegades in March, acquiring 43% of the available stock in the company, and is expected to increase its share to 57% early next year.

Houston Outlaws

OpTic Gaming owned the Houston Outlaws previously. The team will enter the 2020 Overwatch League season in February with a new-found optimism after a rough 16th place finish in the 2019 season.

Many had chalked the difficulties up to the sale of the team to Immortals with the OpTic org. Immortals already owns LA Valiant and were prohibited from interfering with the roster and staff.

The team will also host its first homestand the weekend of February 29th at the Revention Music Center in downtown Houston.

The center boasts a 2,000-seat capacity and is the first homestands hosted by a team in 2020. The first-year teams will be required to do so.

All eyes will thus be focused on the newly bought team for the first stage of the season and whether they can finally shake off the problems that plagued them last year.
