Horizon Zero Dawn Updated to Support DLSS and FSR

Horizon Zero Dawn, one of the best games in recent history and Guerrilla Games’ crowning achievement, has now been updated to support both NVIDIA’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR! This is absolutely stellar news for those who want to experience Aloy’s incredible journey and have one of NVIDIA’s oh-so-powerful Turing or Ampere-based graphics cards.

Even those with older GPUs or ones made by AMD will be able to increase their frame rates by employing a bit of FRS magic. It’s not as mind-blowing as DLSS, but it works nonetheless and is a welcome addition — even though the graphics do tend to degrade a bit toomuch for our liking.

Still, it’s an option and will surely come in handy to anyone looking to reach that 60 FPS mark.

Improved Performane

Update 1.11 brings another important performance update and it pertains to the shader management system. Shaders will no longer pre-compile upon startup but instead only during loading and in the background while you’re playing the game. Stutters during gameplay mostly occurred because of background shader compilation so they should now be significantly reduced.

Moreover, loading screens will now wait for the game to fully compile required shaders which could result in slightly longer wait times on certain systems (mostly entry-level and mid-tier ones).

These are all very important updates as they’ll improve performance in a myriad of ways. It’s no secret that the PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn wasn’t initially met with praise because of its poor optimization and many game-breaking bugs, but things have gotten a lot better over time. Right now, as things stand, the game is not only wholly playable but extremely enjoyable as well, and if you happen to have an NVIDIA GPU in your possession, DLSS will make Horizon Zero Dawn look and play better than ever before!

We’re elated beyond measure that more game devs have started supporting NVIDIA’s powerful upscaling technology. It took them a while, but better late than never! It is undoubtedly one of NVIDIA’s biggest selling points and you should definitely take it into considering the next time you decide to upgrade your rig — once prices go down and the whole crypto craze subsides, of course.
