Hearthstone Grandmasters Season 2 Will Require Players to Have 4 Deck Classes

Hearthstone Grandmasters season 2 will be seeing some major changes upon release. The weekly esports league is a popular event for fans in the community and it has been a steady event this year. Well, it doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon with the second season gearing up.

Blizzard announced that they will be making huge changes to rules and more in Hearthstone Grandmasters season 2. The biggest of these changes is to the decks that the pro players in the league will be allowed to use. It is getting a massive overhaul that could be welcome or divisive, depending on who you ask.

Blizzard Changes How Many Decks Players Will Use

The current rule in season one is that players must bring three decks that are virtually the same but with some minor changes. However, that will not be the case in Hearthstone Grandmasters season 2. Instead, players will need four decks in total rather than just the three that they have now.

In addition, the requirements for those decks are steep and much more strict than the current rules state. The four decks can’t be similar like they are right now and must be from four different hero classes. This means that a player can’t just have four Shaman decks but must have one deck from four of the nine classes.

This is a surprising change that will likely be met with some controversy as the pro players are now, essentially, required to be skilled at four different classes in total. Considering how different classes in the card game are, this could require some players to have to study up on the other classes.

How Matches Will Work in Season 2

After all, it isn’t uncommon for players to only focus on two or so different classes and not be used to using the other classes. The reason for the four decks is how the matches will go during Hearthstone Grandmasters season 2. What happens at the start of a match is a player can pick one deck they have.

They can protect that deck from being banned by their opponent. Then once both players have selected one of their four decks to protect from a ban, each of them select one of their opponent’s remaining three decks and bans it. This leaves both of the players with three decks left.

Then each player will select their first deck and the first round of the match will begin like normal. The difference is that when the first round concludes, the winning player will pick another deck to use for the second match. Essentially, all of the players will need to know and perfect their four total decks.

Other Changes Coming to Hearthstone Grandmasters Season 2

This also means that the loser can continue using that deck if they want. These aren’t the only changes that are coming to Hearthstone Grandmasters season 2 either. The divisions will be swapped around to ensure that the competition is not exactly the same as the first season was.

In addition, from now on in the second season, four players will make it to the playoffs at the end of the season from each of the divisions rather than just three like it was in the first season. All three of the regions will have the same times for deck submissions to ensure that no one gets an advantage.

Matches will be evenly split throughout the weekend to ensure that Sunday doesn’t have too many matches like it is currently. All three days of the weekend will have 16 matches each for a total of 48 matches rather than before where Friday and Saturday had 15, and Sunday had 18 matches.

Beyond the major Hearthstone Grandmasters season 2 changes that are on the way, Blizzard has also noted that there will be changes for the Masters Tour but those changes will be implemented after the second season has already begun.

In related news, Dog is getting replaced in the upcoming season of Grandmasters by none other than Gallon as Dog will be retiring from the esports league to focus on streaming.
