When it comes to FPS titles, one of the biggest players in the game is Halo, being in the top leagues of the best FPS games of the modern age, it’s come a long way, reaching its 20th anniversary following Xbox in its footsteps. Halo has changed from a series made by a single company, to completely changing companies, it’s no surprise that some content from the halo series was sent to the cutting room floor. However, the halo series approaching its 20th anniversary in November has fans talking about the series again, and the Co-Creator for Halo has shared some of the content that didn’t see the light of day on the original title. Posted on Twitter, the co-creator of the Halo series, Marcus Lehto showed off a video that included some cut weapons from the game like the Concussion gun, the Particle Beam Rifle, the Excavator, and the Microwave gun. Most of the weapons were covenant prototypes, which could have been introduced into the game, of which there’s 4 that was shown off.

What Did Early Halo Weapons Look Like?

The guns look like enormous amounts of fun for the average Halo player, with the microwave gun being a constant stream of damage in the same vein as a minigun, however it looks like the excavator is taking the cake, being a massive explosive weapon, while the particle beam rife can take on even the toughest of enemies, The concussion gun looks like it functions like a railgun, with a cooldown between shots.

However, these guns never made it into the version of Halo players are familiar with to this day. Even the 2000’s build of halo that was shown off in the tweet looks very little like the halo players know, as the game is completely in the third person, including the armor on the spartan soldier looking completely different compared to the original Halo title.

The Real magic behind information like this is that it helps give player’s an inside look into the developments of their favorite titles, meaning that players who want to get in on the ground floor of some of these games are more than capable of doing so. The interest in cut content like this has spawned communities dedicated to the game’s to either bring content back, or catalog what could have been, consider a website like The Cutting Room Floor a website dedicated to content that was cut from gaming as a whole, and contains a myriad of games and content that was cut, but still remained in the titles they discussed, however, something special, like a developer showing off something that the public did not know of, is special.

Regardless, the legacy of Halo continues with the release of Halo Infinite this Holiday, and while fans never got weapons like the concussion gun on the excavator, Halo still managed to capture the hearts and minds of all the people who managed to pick up an Xbox 20 years ago.
