GTA V — one of the most popular games in history — will be getting a full-fledged next-gen port for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on November 11! How has this title been able to stay afloat and to remain in the public eye for so long? It truly boggles the mind. Now, don’t mistake this for complaining as it’s not. Instead, it’s sheer awe with a pinch of confusion. How has it become such a touchstone release? How has it not regressed in popularity and success over the years? We’re talking about a title released in 2013.

You know what else was released back in 2013? Bioshock Infinite. The Last of Us. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Dota 2. That’s like a lifetime ago.

Moreover, GTA V has sold well over 140 million copies since its release. Let that one sink in. It is the second-best-selling video game of all time, and it makes the sales of Red Dead Redemption 2 (±37 million) seem like a failure. In fact, GTA V has sold more units in 2020 than it did in any year prior, and that number is only certain to rise with the next-gen port. Extraordinary? You bet. Vexing as heck? Absolutely. The game is alive and well, perhaps now more than ever, in no small part because of GTA Online — a title that will also be hitting next-gen consoles on November 11.

All in all, if you’re a fan of this age-old franchise — like most of us are — and you happen to own a PS5 or an Xbox Series S/X, then it might be high time to enter the fictional world of Los Santos once again!

Unfortunately, the only thing we know at this point about this updated GTA V is that we’re getting an “enhanced” version of the game for next-gen consoles. What that means exactly still remains to be seen. Rockstar is promising new features along with numerous perks but we’ll have to keep tight and await additional information.

The only thing we do know is that GTA Online will be free-to-play for the first three months upon its release on the PS5 — a great little perk that’ll surely bring in millions of gamers from across the globe!
