Exactly two months since the redeploy was removed, Fortnite announced that the mechanic is being brought back as an item.
The redeploy of the glider was first introduced in November 2018, and it quickly became controversial. Epic Games made some quick improvements for the redeploy, but it was never to the community’s liking. After continued complaints from the community about the glider, Epic Games removed the controversial redeploy in its v6.30 patch.
In their official announcement, Epic Games stated that they ran tests for the glider redeploy a while back and there was a very split response on the mechanic. It revealed some positives as well as some negatives. The goal of this brand-new glider redeploy item is to provide mobility and utility, but in a form that can be balanced. As an item, Epic Games has the freedom to tweak the new glider item’s finer mechanics, such as redeploy height, movement speed, and drop chance.
In v7.20, the glider redeploy will use a slot in your inventory as a glider item. The activation of the redeploy is the same as it once was, meaning the player will not have to select the item. Each deploy of the glider removes one charge, and once all the charges have been used, the item disappears. A charge of the glider will not be consumed if the player uses a launch pad, rifts-to-go, or an LTM respawn. The new glider redeploy item is found in chests, vending machines, supply llamas, and amongst floor loot.
It’ll be interesting to see how this changes the Fortnite’s meta going forward. There seems to be at least one update almost every week when it comes to Fortnite, which doesn’t allow for a consistent meta. However, if the glider redeploy item stays this time, it could have a significant effect on the gameplay seen at esports tournaments.
