A Dark Week For Fighting Games – Gilty, Chris Bahn, Floe, More
It’s been an absolutely horrific summer for the fight game community (FGC). Between the controversy in recent weeks around Ally and CaptainZack, along with the untimely death of Etika back in June, the FGC has stumbled from one controversy to the next.
That all appears to just be the calm before the storm, though, as several sexual assault and harassment scandals have begun to break this week. Ranging from inappropriate comments to straight-up attempts at drugging fellow community members, the scandals have taken the FGC by storm.
Gilty Harassing Other Women
One of the highest-profile of these scandals is the one surrounding Street Fighter player Gilty, who has been accused of sexually harassing at assault other female players at events.
The accusations began after a tweet from fellow FGC player Yohosie in which Gilty was charged with publically and inappropriately touching her at CEO 2015.
Other female members of the FGC stepped forward to confirm her claims and share their own, resulting in Gilty releasing her own tweet admitting to the charges and apologizing.
Stating that she, “also contributed to the toxic environment in [her] own ways,” Gilty apologized for what she’d done and said it was her “obligation to take responsibility.”
She ended her apology by deciding to take an exit from the FGC scene, though not before being permanently banned from all Combo Breaker tournaments.
Accusations Against Floe
Floe’s case was probably the most concerning of all the scandals that popped up this week.
Fellow fighter Musakui Tenshi made a detailed and lengthy post on Facebook accusing Floe and two others of drugging her and attempting to rape her in a hotel room during this year’s CEO.
Floe immediately responded on Twitter claiming his innocence and that he’d be making a statement on the matter once he’d spoken to his lawyer.
We’ll keep you updated at that situation develops.
Chris Bahn
Probably the most well-known scandal of the past week involved fighting game photographer Chris Bahn, who has been accused of harassing and assaulting multiple women over the past several years.
The fighting game community was quick to react to Bahn’s putrid behavior, with CEO, Combo Breaker, and several other large gaming tournaments permanently banning him from attending their events, citing a concern for the safety of their attendees.
Promaelia
Yet another player accused of assaulting multiple victims, including several intoxicated minors, Promaelia came forward this week to apologize to his victims, blaming past transgressions on alcohol usage.
His “confession” was quickly deleted, along with his Twitter, following immense community backlash, particularly from Roflfox, who took to TwitLonger to express his fury at Promaelia’s weak apology, stating he and several of the victims were working to get the police involved in the matter.
Hiro
Lastly on the drama this week we have Smash player Hiro, who has been accused of taking advantage of minors.
Hiro admitted to sending sexual private messages to the minors while being investigated for other allegations against himself, and VGBC’s Aposi took to TwitLonger to explain that, although no laws had been broken, he would still be banned from all future Xanadu events over the matter.
We’ll keep you updated as each of these stories develop in the coming days and weeks.
