Ghost of Ikishima Rumored to Come Out in 2021

A standalone single-player expansion called Ghost of Ikishima is rumored to be in the works! Sucker Punch’s exceptional period set during Japan’s first Mongol invasion has garnered both profit and critical acclaim alike. It’s truly one of the best first-party titles in recent history, and now, if the rumor mill is to be believed, it’s getting a full-fledged expansion! If you were as enchanted with Ghost of Tsushima as many of us, you have a reason to celebrate!

According to a couple of leakers, Ghost of Ikishima is about the size of Spider-Man: Miles Morales and should be hitting the shelves just in time for the upcoming holiday season! Or perhaps “mini-sequel” would be the aptest way of describing it. If things pan out as expected, we’ll probably get a shortened campaign (seven to eight hours, probably) along with a couple of interesting gameplay changes thrown in for good measure.

With this “expansion” presumably being cross-gen, it’s fair to expect upgraded visuals and noticeably shorter loading times as well. It’s not a wholly different game (i.e., built from the ground up), but it would still give PlayStation 5 owners something to sink their teeth into until other, seemingly more alluring titles like God of War: Ragnarok come out. Moreover, it would also introduce this spectacular IP to millions of gamers who wouldn’t have experienced it otherwise — a win-win, as far as we are concerned.

Ghost of Ikishima — Seems Legit

We know for a fact that Sony and Sucker Punch want to build on Ghost of Tsushima’s success. With nearly seven million units sold thus far, it’s been quite a surprise hit. A full-fledged sequel (exclusive to the PS5) is surely in the cards as well, but we’ll probably have to wait a while until it sees the light of day.

So, in the meantime, why not release an expansion that would be far smaller in scope? Sucker Punch will probably employ the same approach as Insomniac: they’ll take the world they’d built for Ghost of Tsushima, expand it ever so slightly, and put on a fresh coat of paint. That might not sound like much, but it’s more than enough for the time being!

There’s bound to be a new State of Play-like event in a couple of months, so stay tuned — we might be in for a surprise!
