Gen.G’s New Fifth Player, Katowice Qualifiers Upsets, More – CSGO Recap 12/11/2019

by in CS:GO | Dec, 11th 2019

Welcome back to another exciting day of CSGO news! Today we’ve got a look at the fifth player of Gen.G, upsets at the Katowice qualifiers, pros speaking out on the need for soundproof booths, and W0xic’s continuing issues with getting a visa.

As always, we’ve got a lot to cover today, so let’s dive on in.

Gen.G’s New Fifth

With most of the roster revealed for the upcoming IEM Katowice qualifiers and Sick serving as a stand-in, fans look forward to the eventual announcement of the fifth player of Gen.G. The team teased a mysterious figure in their roster announcement last week.

A report from Dekay leaked that BnTeT could be the fifth player of the new Gen.G roster. According to the report, the team extended an offer to Bn. His current contract with Tyloo expires at the end of the year. It’s unknown if he’ll accept the offer.

Chinese players don’t often get picked up for squads outside of the country. So, the fact that Gen.G is looking to pick someone up from there shows a creative attitude. It could be the start of a wave of Chinese pick-ups if it pans out.

Upsets at Katowice Qualifiers

Speaking of Gen.G and Katowice qualifiers, the team had a rather embarrassing first showing at the IEM Katowice North American Open Qualifiers, with the team failing to win their first match.

The game saw the team fall against Just for Fun 14-16, made especially embarrassing considering the players on JFF. The team is composed of orgless players such as Subroza and WARDELL.

The game was made worse by the fact that the team’s stand-in, Sick, was by far the best playing member of the Gen.G squad. It raised concerns about how well the team will do given they’ve already mostly gotten used to playing together while on C9.

They weren’t the only team JFF upset. Their next opponent Team Envy, also fell to the orgless squad in another 14-16 defeat, this time on Inferno.

These players have a lot of drive to take on and beat more established teams. Hopefully, they find a sponsor and stick together past the qualifiers, as there looks to be some good potential here.

Soundproof Booths Please

While teams were duking it out in the Open Qualifiers, pros waiting for the main event were active across Twitter calling for soundproof booths at events.

We covered pros complaining about crowd reactions and noise at events. Players can utilize fan reactions to avoid getting surprised in matches and locate enemies.

Some pros even noted that they used the grenade explosion sound from the game feed broadcast in venues to determine whether there was an enemy nearby where one was thrown.

It’s a huge problem giving players an unintended advantage in-game. The high number of teams that take advantage is alarming given how powerful the information is.

Player calls for soundproof booths are only getting louder as more and more teams try and take advantage of the extra information.

W0xic Visa Woes

Our last stop of the day takes us to Turkey, where Mousesports’ W0xic is again having visa issues preventing him from attending a tournament.

With their schedule only giving him two days to apply, W0xic was unable to get a visa in time to attend CS Summit 5 with his team, instead of being replaced by Natosaphix for the event as Mouz attempts a three-weekend straight title streak.

It’s sad to see visa issues still affecting W0xic, but at least this time, it was just time constraints as opposed to a straight-up denial keeping him from playing.

Hopefully, the team does well with Nato filling in and can make a deep run at the tournament.

That’s all we have for today, thanks for reading. We’ll be back soon to bring you more exciting CSGO news, so stay tuned!
