Gears 5 Adds Esports DLC Items

by in General | Nov, 12th 2019

Do you love Gears 5? Are you excited for the Gears 5 2019-2020 season of esports? Well, now you can start representing your teams in-game with the first wave of Gears 5 esports DLC items. Only a few of the teams are available now, but more are on the way.

The revenue for these is split between both the teams and the Gears 5 esports prize pool. Though we have no idea exactly what the split will be, it sounds like a great idea to help fund the latest Gears game’s esports scene.

Who Is First?

First up, we have NRG Esports, Rise Nation and Team Reciprocity skins. The DLC items will come in the form of a set of five-gun skins in the basic DLC pack. If you want an NRG skin for your Lancer, Gnasher, Snub, Boltok or Talon, this is your lucky day.

Gears 5 Adds Esports DLC Items for NRG, Reciprocity, Rise Nation, Ghost Gaming

This basic bundle will run $9.99, but if you want to show your love, there’s a bigger bundle. The $19.99 bundle for each team adds a branded banner, blood spray, and mark to the set. Sure, the gun skins are awesome, but I’m looking forward to seeing the banners and blood sprays. Now those sound awesome.

Judging by the image I have seen, the skins look incredible. On a personal note, I was hoping to see character skins, but I understand that it would likely be an unreasonable ask. There are so many characters to create skins for. Then you must factor in the branded guest characters (Terminator).

I just hope that the other teams will get their Gears 5 esports DLC items soon. As a long-time fan of esports, nothing’s worse than watching your opponents all rep their squads, while you must sit out and wait. That is, unless you’re a real die-hard fan, and purchase all the items, regardless of what team they are for.

Gears 5 Esports? Where At?

The Gears 5 2019-2020 season is currently running, with PGL handling the organizing. The tournament has a total of $2 million on the line, though that could inflate with the DLC bundles. This tournament is taking place in North America, Central America and Europe.

San Diego is the home of the next major, running from December 6-8th, 2019. Next up will be the Mexico City Open in March 2020. May will hold another event, while the Gears 5 World Championships are scheduled for July 2020.

Teams will compete in online weekly events, where the “Challenger Points” gained are based on the team’s performance rather than individual players. They can also compete in ladder matches throughout the week, but this uses an ELO system, rather than giving Challenge Points, so the teams don’t have to grind all hours of the day to improve.
