Fortnite Winter Royale Announced
The Fortnite Fall Skirmish has come to a close, but in its place, we have the upcoming Fortnite Winter Royale Tournament! Here’s the kicker. The Fortnite Winter Royale Tournament has a one million dollar prize pool.
A very exciting announcement to be sure, so let’s jump right in and go over the details!
The V6.30 Online Tournament Fixes
Epic Games released their Online Tournament system last month, and according to the Fortnite Team, didn’t get the results they wanted for creating a competitive environment. Apparently, some significant bugs influenced the overall enjoyment of the tournament.
The patch fixes a bug where player’s point totals were not influencing matchmaking. Players should now, correctly, go against opponents with similar point totals. This should make tournaments much more interesting as they’ll be on a level playing field.
There were also issues related to incorrect point totals showing up post-match, being slow to update, and so on. Epic Games has stated that they want to get the real-time point tracking as close as possible while continuing to improve the Online Tournament experience.
Pop-Up Cups Added
Another epic addition is the Fortnite “Pop-Up Cup” online tournaments now available on the “events” tab. The Pop-Up Cups will have different game settings. Mechanically, they’ll be similar to the Competitive Limited Time Modes so that Epic can test adjustments in competitive play.
This will provide players with many opportunities to compete. Participants should carefully read the rules, however, as Pop-Up Cups may change over time. This mode will help prepare for bigger tourneys and act as the testing grounds for live adjustments to hit the competitive scene.
$1,000,000.00 Fortnite Winter Royale Tournament
The Fortnite World Cup is coming. Epic Games will be holding tournaments modeled after the World Cup Qualifier. They’re doing this to create a superior competitive experience and gather information for future tournaments.
Qualifier participants will be judged by their highest score from an event session. The Winter Royale games will use the same game settings as the Pop-Up Cup. The top performers from North America (NA) and Europe (EU) will be verified and invited to participate in the Winter Royale Finals.
Currently, the tournament is restricted to NA and EU, but Epic Games has announced plans to hold other region-specific tournaments in the future to accommodate more users. The tournament dates for EU and NA are below.
- Winter Royale Qualifier – OPEN – Nov 24 – Nov 25
- Europe Winter Royale Finals – Nov 30 – Dec 1
- North America Winter Royale Finals – Dec 11–Dec 12
Specific times and other tournaments can be found in-game on the “events” tab.
