Fortnite Snow Begins to Melt on the Chapter 2 Map After End of Winterfest

by in Fortnite | Jan, 7th 2020

All good things must come to an end in life and such is the case with the Fortnite snow. Recently, the map became covered almost entirely in snow as leaks had suggested it would. But the problem with this is that snow is inevitably going to melt and that is exactly what is starting to happen.

Snowy Fortnite Map Begins to Melt

Players have begun to notice that the Fortnite snow on the map is beginning to melt in certain areas of the battle royale island. With this unfortunate and surprising discovery, it seems that the wintery holiday season in the game is getting ready to come to an end soon.

This is shocking since the holidays just came to an end in real life and in the game itself but the winter season is still going strong around much of the world. As such, it did seem like the snowy areas of the chapter two, season one map would stick around for a little bit longer.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case after all as players who jump into the game today and moving forward will start to see the Fortnite snow melt. Beginning today, players started to see that the snow-covered map was clearing up a little bit and certain areas were losing their icy aesthetic.

According to well-known and reputable data miner HYPEX, the snow started to melt specifically around the Slurpy Swamp area of the map. That named location that was added with the release of this second island in battle royale history is found in the southwestern corner of the map.

It is now mostly cleared up and looks to be around the same as it was prior to the last couple of weeks where the entire map became covered in the wintery wonderland. It likely won’t stop with Slurpy Swamp either as the rest of the map is going to melt its snow in the near future, too.

We expect it to be much like the original battle royale from the first 10 seasons of the game where it will start in one place and gradually spread throughout the rest of the island. In this case, it is beginning in Slurpy Swamp and will likely spread from there to the other locations.

As such, you can expect to see places like Holly Hedges, Misty Meadows, and Weeping Woods go back to their normal looks before the rest of the island does. You can even take a look at the actual map of the island in the matches themselves and you will see that this change is slowly occurring.

From what we can tell, the Fortnite snow will be gradually melting over time for the next couple of days and then it will all be back to normal from there. The exact period of time that it will take for the entire island to return to its previous look is not known for now.

But we do think that it will be changing every single day. So, for instance, we could see one or two locations that are normal again tomorrow and then another couple of changes for the day after that. This cycle will likely continue each day until the whole island is back to what it was before.

This whole process is unfortunate and a little bit earlier than what many players expected to happen. The timing makes sense with the end of the holiday event but it also is surprising given that we are just now getting into the new year and the winter season is still going on.

Fortnite Snow Melting Coincides With End of Winterfest

The holiday limited time event Winterfest started in 2019 and lasted for a couple of weeks before coming to a close today, January 7, 2020 at 6 am PT. Players were able to play through the various challenges, check out the lodge location, and collect their rewards up until now.

If you are reading this now, we hope that you were able to complete everything you wanted to during the event because it’s all over now. During the Winterfest holiday event, players were able to check back each day for new content to explore and complete.

To facilitate all of the new holiday content, the lodge location was added to the game. This interactive new area was only available in the main battle royale lobby and players were able to do various activities there. You could open up presents each day to collect new holiday rewards.

There were a ton of rewards that were given out throughout the course of the event ranging from simple banners and the like to more substantial rewards like skins, emotes, and more. All of these were free with players only needing to show up each day to see what was new.

In addition to that, there were daily challenges that players could collect. These would also grant the player free holiday rewards from the Winterfest event to add on top of the already free goodies. Beyond that, there were even daily returns of fan favorite weapons and game modes.

But now that holiday event is over and, therefore, it looks like the snowy map is going back to how it was before. Part of why this is so surprising now is because there is potentially still a month or so left in the current season of battle royale.

The first season of chapter two was extended to sometime in February so it would make sense to keep the snowy map around until the time comes for season two to start. So, if you like the way the map was during the Winterfest, we recommend spending as much time in it as you can before it all melts soon.
