Before the introduction of Fortnite Season 6, I previously wrote how Loot Lake turned into a giant bounce pad. This occurred when “Kevin,” the cube that traveled around the map, reached Loot Lake. It now appears that in Season 6, the cube has caused the island in the middle of Loot Lake to levitate into the air, shown in the official trailer. Which leads us into the theme for Fortnite Season 6 being “Darkness Rises.”
The theme Darkness Rises gives Fortnite Season 6 that extra Halloween feel to it. The brand-new skins that I’ve already seen will remind players of Halloween costumes, along with the new locations. So, without further ado let’s get into a quick overview of what’s new in Fortnite Season 6.
Fortnite Season 6 – Items
Two brand-new items have been introduced in Fortnite Season 6.
Pets – The first is the introduction of pets. Pets appear to be strictly a cosmetic item and look to replace back bling. According to the official patch notes article from Epic Games, Pets always have a friend watching your back when you drop in. Players that purchase the battle pass can earn multiple pets throughout the season, including a dog, dragon, and lizard.
Shadow Stones – The second newest item in Fortnite is the Shadow Stones. The stones are found around corrupted areas of the map. Once the player consumes the stone, it will apply ‘Shadow Form’ for 45 seconds, unless exited early. While in shadow form, players are unable to use a weapon and become invisible to enemies when stationary. Players also gain increased movement speed, jump height, and fall damage immunity. The last feature is the ‘Phase’ ability, which propels you in the direction you’re facing, and allows you to pass through objects.
Fortnite Season 6 – Weapons
Fortnite announced that it has vaulted impulse grenades, suppressed submachine guns, light machine guns, bouncers, and remote explosives. However, these weapons will remain in the playground mode.
Epic Games has made changes to the grappler, double barrel and dual pistol in Fortnite Season 6. A momentum functionality has been added to the grappler, while its chargers have decreased from 15 to 10. The double barrel damage was reduced from 143/150 to 114/120. Lastly, Epic Games lowered the dual pistol floor loot drop from 1.49% to 0.88%.
Fortnite Season 6 – New Locations
There are four new highlighted locations within Fortnite Season 6. They are the Floating Island, Corrupted Areas, Corn Fields, and the Haunted Castle. However, there are updated locations, such as Tomato Town is now known as Tomato Temple.
All the locations are easy to find, while the only one I had issues finding was the Haunted Castle. Simply enough, it’s on the mountain next to Haunted Hills.
Battle Pass Items
If you are interested in purchasing the battle pass, it will remain the same price as it has in the past, requiring 950 v-bucks. Once again though the battle pass will pay for its self if you manage your v-bucks correctly since you’ll earn 1500 v-bucks over the course of the 100-tier battle pass. Shown below are all the items that you can earn in this season’s battle pass.

It’ll be interesting to see how Fortnite Season 6 plays out during the Fall Skirmish matches. The addition of shadow stones could potentially add a new meta into the game that I’ve yet to see.
There are many other slight changes to Fortnite in the new patch. If you’d like to read the entire patch notes article, please visit the Official Fortnite website here.
