Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point: The Mandalorian, Baby Yoda, More

by in Fortnite | Dec, 2nd 2020

Fortnite Season 5 is finally here. Players can enjoy an exciting new season of content that will tie us over for the next few months of battle royale. The new content in this Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point update is pretty substantial and could be quite exciting for many players out there.

Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point Is Here

The release of Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point is here. It is making it very clear that the Zero Point item that has been at the heart of much of the lore behind Fortnite and its last few seasons is at the core of it all. Much like the cube in the first chapter, it seems that this item is one of the McGuffins of the Fortnite universe.

It has once again shaped the entire island after the Fortnite Galactus event that brought with it the destruction of that supervillain and the end of the Marvel-themed season as we know it. But in exchange, Disney has stepped in and filled the gap with some other interesting properties.

Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point is the start of something new as Epic Games and the battle royale title embrace the crossover nature of being between realities. Sure, we’ve had crossovers in the past. The last season was all about Marvel stuff, but this time is different.

Instead of focusing solely on one thing, Season 5 looks to be a better bridge between the crossover content that is exciting and fun as well as the actual Fortnite backstory and lore that has been sorely missing for a while now for those players who love that sort of thing.

Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point comes with changes to the Chapter 2 map with new locations, a galaxy-spanning battle pass with new characters, new items and weapons, and much more. Here is everything that you need to know about the Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point update since there are no official patch notes at this time.

Battle Pass: The Mandalorian, Hunters

Kicking things off is the theme of this season. While it is technically called Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point, the theme seems to be all about hunters. Be it hunters in the traditional sense against animals or bounty hunters like one particularly famous one, the characters this season are the hunters.

When you pick up the battle pass, you will find that you will be unlocking seven main characters who are all hunters of some sort. The very first one that you will unlock at tier one is the most popular and anticipated one, for sure, and that is The Mandalorian.

Thus far, the one major crossover this season is Mando himself from the popular Disney+ TV show The Mandalorian. The popular bounty hunter in the full set of metal armor is joining the ranks of battle royale. Players will be able to pick him up just by purchasing the paid battle pass this season.

If you are looking for a way to get the battle pass and some other goodies as well, you could always pick up the new Fortnite Crew subscription where you can get the new battle pass plus some other goodies like an exclusive skin and 1000 V-Bucks to spend on whatever you want.

Of course, the main stars of the battle pass are the characters. The first one you get at tier one is Mando. This is followed up by Reese skin, one of the hunters that Jonesy has brought into the Fortnite universe in Fortnite Season 5 Zero Point and unlocked at tier 15.

After that, we get to the Mancake skin; a very strange and disturbing hunter unlocked at tier 29. After that, we get the Mave skin at tier 41, where you can get this Wildheart defender of the jungle, one of the new locations in Season 5.

From there, the next skin is the Kondor one at tier 60, followed by the amazing Lexa skin at tier 73 that is anime-styled and looks different from anything else in Fortnite. Then at tier 83, you will get the Menace skin that looks like a Roman gladiator.

That is the final skin you can get this season as the last few tiers in the battle pass are dedicated to Star Wars. You can get some banners, emoticons, and even a new clothing style option for Mando. At tier 100, you will unlock the latest pet for Fortnite, and that is The Child, or Baby Yoda, as he is better known.

Baby Yoda is a unique pet who will not only chill on your back like most do but possibly will follow you around and move a bit on his own, making him one of the most unique pets to date and certainly the cutest/best one ever released. Be sure to pick up the paid battle pass if you want him on your team.

Oddly enough, there doesn’t look to be a “secret” skin this season that we can see for now, unlike the last three seasons that had Deadpool, Aquaman, and Wolverine, respectively. So, that classic weekly challenges trend to unlock a new skin eventually seems to be dead for now.

How the Bounty System Works

With the theme of hunters, this season comes the bounty system that is new to Fortnite in Season 5 and will likely only stick around for this duration. As you are playing as Mando and other hunters in the battle royale game, it only makes sense that you will be completing quests and bounties to earn rewards.

It also means that there is a new and unique reward that is in Fortnite in Season 5 known as bars. You can only unlock these through the bounty system, where you take quests and complete them. You can spend these bars on new exotic weapons, upgrades, intel, and more.

Many of the details surrounding the bars are uncertain at this time as we have only been able to play a couple of matches. Still, it seems like this is a new currency that is only for the match you are in, mainly like the materials you gather up that only last for that one.

Bars can be earned by visiting the new NPC characters around the island, and won’t attack you. A talk symbol notes them above their head. You can interact with them to pick a quest that you want to do to earn this currency.

When we tested out this feature, the NPC gave us the option of eliminating another player, sticking our head out of a window, and another one. We picked the second option as it was easy to do, completed it, and then earned some bars for the simple task.

Season 5 Map Changes

A new season of Fortnite battle royale wouldn’t be complete without some map changes to it. Though the end of the Galactus event seemed like we might be visiting a new island, that isn’t the case as we are still smack dab right in the middle of Chapter 2.

But there are some significant changes to the island in this new season that will be exciting to fans of the original island. Overall, this island feels more varied now because of these changes. There is one fan-favorite location that is back and in action.

Four new named locations are here in Season 5: Colossal Coliseum, Hunter’s Haven, Salty Towers, and Stealthy Stronghold. They are each very different and feel themed around different aspects of the bounty hunters from arenas to jungles to more.

Salty Towers is the first change that we have ever had name-wise to Salty Springs. It blends the location with the long-awaited return of the most popular named location of Chapter 1: Tilted Towers. There are also some more NPC enemies and other new landmark locations that you can visit.

We will have more to share about the new map changes and not return in our full Season 5 map guide soon.

New Weapons and Items

There are new weapons and items as this is a new season of battle royale. There are two new weapons in general plus some returning ones. The first new weapon is the Dragon’s Breath shotgun that looks to be one of the most overpowered weapons this season.

This new shotgun is already really powerful on its own, but it has four bullets loaded into the chamber and fired all at once. These four bullets will deal some serious damage and can take out players with no problem. We imagine that it will be nerfed later down the road, so enjoy it while you can.

The other new weapon is a crossover one that fans of The Mandalorian will be happy about. It is the Amban sniper rifle and is a brand new rifle that is the one that Mando uses in the hit TV show. The iconic dual-pronged sniper rifle is a powerful one that is versatile as well.

Of course, you can use it to take out enemies from very far away in quick measure, but it can also be used as a melee weapon. So, if someone sneaks up on you while you are sniping, you could easily hit them a couple of times to defeat them rather than waste time switching to another weapon.

Speaking of The Mandalorian, there is a new item that you can find in the game and that Mando’s jetpack. Jetpacks seem to be a permanent thing this season. You can use Mando’s special metal one that will match his skin if you have that equipped.

This season also means that some items and weapons are being vaulted while others are unvaulted. Here are some of the vaulted weapons that we know about at this time:

  • Certain rarities of the SMG
  • Certain rarities of the pump shotgun
  • Rare LMG
  • Legendary bolt-action sniper rifle
  • Revolver
  • Fire trap
  • Scoped assault rifle

Meanwhile, some returning weapons from the vault are back in Season 5, including the charge shotgun, which we used in a recent match and found to be just as seemingly OP as it was before. Here are some of the ones that we have found thus far:

  • Charge shotgun
  • Tactical shotgun
  • Double barrel shotgun
  • Heavy assault rifle

There are likely more items and weapons added back into the game or taken out of it that we don’t know about at this time. But this is a good list thus far to keep in mind for the weapons and items that you will no longer be able to use or be able to use once again.

Who Will Join the Hunters Later?

Epic Games has made it clear that this season will see more hunters join the battle royale game from other realities, so the seven skins in the battle pass are only some of the hunters we will see in Season 5. This begs the question of who we will see later on as the weeks go by.

As usual, these additional skins will likely be paid ones that you have to buy separately in the item shop rather than unlock them through the battle pass like the others. While there will probably be some original Fortnite character skins that look awesome that show up, I hope that there are other crossover skins.

Boba Fett, the original famous Mandalorian bounty hunter from Star Wars, immediately springs to mind. That is all but guaranteed this season, or at least we hope so, but there might be others, too. The hunters definition is vague, but it would be cool to see some characters like the Predator, Rambo, and other skins that could fit that description. For now, we will have to wait and see.
