Fortnite Season 2 Vault Location Guide
As we near the end of February, the second month of the new year, we also lean into the beginning of Fortnite Season 2. After months of waiting, the latest season of battle royale is here finally with fresh new content and major changes available.
Fortnite Season 2 Comes After Battle Royale Drought
Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2 comes after the longest drought of new content in the history of the game. Since the start of the first season of battle royale, the title followed the same cycle of a new season with new content every few months.
This would be a welcome change as it would ensure that players could enjoy new map changes, a battle pass, and more. But in the case of Chapter 2, Season 1, players had the longest season ever that lasted around the same time as two normal seasons of the game.
With that drought finally over, players can now enjoy the release of Fortnite Season 2. It has a lot of map changes, one of the best battle passes, new skins with customization options, and more.
Fortnite Vaults and Where to Find Them
As with any new season, new weapons and gameplay mechanics become available. One of these new features are the Fortnite vault locations. Players can visit the new areas for special rewards just by going there.
Vaults are a new type of location, like vending machines and treasure chests, that players can find on the battle royale island. They have set locations in every single match and are worth checking out if you have the time or happen to be going in a direction.
The Fortnite vault locations take inspiration from the similarly named vaults found in the game’s fellow battle royale competitor Apex Legends. If you’ve played that game before, you know what to expect from these areas.
For some of the best loot and the upper hand on your opponents, visit one of the vaults on the map. Inside, you will find amazing mythic weapons new this season. However, getting inside is a challenging process on its own.
You will have an insane advantage over your opponents with one of the only players or teams with a few mythic weapons in each match. This goes a long way towards getting that coveted victory royale.
Fortnite Vault Locations: How Many Are There?
Before getting to the loot, you need to know the Fortnite vault locations. Five of them are located throughout the battle royale island for players to seek out and unlock.
Thankfully, it isn’t too hard to find each of the Fortnite vault locations once you know where they are and how to reach them. But it does take work and practice to memorize each of their locations. Fortunately, they don’t move around at all.
Epic Games surprised us in Season 2 with the launch of the five new named areas since most new seasons typically come with two or three at the most. Worse still, a lot of times, those “new areas” are just renovations of existing ones.
These five brand-new areas don’t take the place of existing named locations. The Shark, The Agency, The Yacht, The Grotto, and The Rig are the new locations. Here’s where to find the vault locations at each of them.
The Shark Vault Location
It all starts with the first of the five new named locations on the battle royale map in Season 2. The Shark is a bizarre place in the northwestern corner of the island, north of the popular beach resort destination Sweaty Sands.
You can find The Shark as part of the string of islands seemingly useless for most of the first season in Chapter 2. Fortunately, the northernmost island converted into a named location known as The Shark, shaped like an actual shark with a building in the middle.
If you’re looking for the vault at The Shark, you need to find the shark’s mouth on the eastern side of the island, facing the open seas. Head inside to find the hidden base in the basement with a sizeable bank-like vault door that needs to be opened.
The Agency Vault Location
The Agency is the next named area in the very center of the Season 2 island. It is one of the most exciting and popular new areas this season, so keep this in mind when heading there.
The Agency is home to the spy headquarters prevalent throughout this season as the main theme. When you get to The Agency, found on the tiny island in the middle of the map, formerly known as the Eye Land landmark, head inside the building.
What awaits you makes this the most challenging vault. It is at the very bottom of the headquarters in the basement, much like The Shark location. Turrets are waiting outside of it. Disarm, destroy, or disguise yourself to get past.
The Yacht Vault Location
The Yacht, the third new named location on the map, is found in the northeastern corner of the island. The secluded area only features the large boat floating on the water. Thankfully, it doesn’t move around, so you will always find it here northeast of Steamy Stacks.
The lower decks section of the large boat features The Yacht vault. You can access it quickly by heading to the vents in the back of the boat. Head inside and you can skirt around the boat without having to deal with other players that much.
The vents system is complex and leads you all around The Yacht, eventually leading to the bottom where the vault is. As before, a turret typically is waiting for you, so watch out and be ready to take it out.
The Grotto Vault Location
The Grotto is the strangest place in this season, which is saying something given the fact that one of the new named locations is a shark-shaped island. But when you first arrive at this spot between Dirty Docks and Retail Row, you will find amazing mythic weapons new this season likely to find a hole in the ground and a circle next to it.
The secret about The Grotto is that you must jump down through the hole to find the real named location hidden there. This is difficult without first gliding there, but the area is more than worth the effort due to the secrets that it holds inside.
One of those secrets is its vault location. This challenging area with tons of henchmen and other objectives is home to one of the five vaults. Players can find it on the northern side of the cavernous underground facility, complete with a miniboss to fight (more on that in a moment).
The Rig Vault Location
Lastly, we have The Rig in the southwestern corner of the map. The secluded location is off the shore of Slurpy Swamps. The massive oil rig facility is home to two separate rigs attached via a bridge.
The Rig vault location is a difficult one to find, due to its location and confusing area. It is located on the northern side of The Rig, found in one of the legs holding the entire facility up in the water.
Getting down there can be challenging with confusing pathways and open waters. However, it is worth memorizing. The Rig is likely one of the less popular vault locations on the map, due to how secluded it is.
How to Unlock the Season 2 Vaults
Before enjoying the sweet loot from one of the vault locations, you need to break it open with the right keycard.
Each of the five named locations has a miniboss to take on for fun. These are NPCs that are noteworthy to the lore surrounding Season 2 and its spy theme. The minibosses differ depending on the location, but they are tough.
Each of them typically has some henchmen with them or nearby that can make taking them out a challenge. What you need to do is defeat the boss. You can pick up their special mythic weapon and the keycard necessary for opening the vault.
Go to the vault and use the keycard to bypass the scanner and get inside. In the vault, you will find more loot to supplement the mythic weapon you discovered. The loot differs between the vaults. However, it is always excellent and built for equipping teams, so feel free to bring friends.
We recommend opening the vault as a team since doing it solo can be a challenge. It can happen with practice. However, you will be vulnerable not just to the NPCs there but to other enemy players who might have the same idea.
At The Shark, you will run into Skye as the boss you need to take out. Players at The Agency need to deal with the golden man himself Midas. At The Yacht, it is cat man Meowscles.
If you are going to The Grotto, you must take on Brutus, a massive enemy with a strong minigun. The Grotto is one of the most challenging places because of its area. Lastly, players who go to The Rig must deal with TNTina, a strong but easily beatable opponent.
