Fortnite Patch V8.01 Breakdown

by in Fortnite | Mar, 7th 2019

Season 8 launched in Patch V8.00, and now Fortnite Patch V8.01 is live with even more new content. It’s a small patch, but if you’re enjoying Season 8’s pirate theme, then you’ll love this update. A treasure map has been added to the game. Just track down the location marked with an X, and you’ll find the Buried Treasure. Shiver me timbers! There’s a lot of rare loot in there.

Let’s take a closer look at Fortnite Patch V8.01.

Battle Royal Changes

New Item

Buried Treasure

  • The treasure map will help you find multiple buried chests around the map.
  • Buried Treasure chests contain legendary loot.
  • You can only hold one treasure map at a time.
  • Treasure maps can be found among Floor Loot or in Chests.

It’s not too hard to find the actual Buried Treasure after you find the treasure map. You just need to get somewhere near the spot marked with an X, and you’ll see a beacon of light. Head towards the light (ha), and you’ll find a giant black X on the ground. Then just pull out your pickaxe to dig up the chest — congratulations, you just found a bunch of rare loot!

There’s a bunch of legendary items and golden weapons in the chest, so it’s definitely worth searching for the Buried Treasure.

Nerfs

Infantry Rifle

  • Lower chance of finding an Infantry Rifle in a Chest.
  • Lower chance of finding an Infantry Rifle among Floor Loot.

The Infantry Rifle is one of the weaker weapons in the game. If you’re stuck with this rifle past the early game, then you’re in big trouble.

Now players won’t have to worry about this underwhelming weapon appearing as much. It’s probably only a matter of time until it’s vaulted.

Clinger

  • Lower chance of finding the Clinger in a Chest.
  • Lower chance of finding the Clinger among Floor Loot.

The Clinger is easily the best grenade in the game. It has a great blast radius, and if you stick your opponent with one…that player faces an unescapable death. Reducing its drop rate is a good start, but I expect further nerfs.

New Event

Gauntlet Solo & Duo Test Tournament

This is a single session event that will last until March 9th.

Scoring works like this:

  • Battle Royale Victory: +3 Points (+10 Total).
  • 2nd place – 5th place: +2 Points (+7 Total).
  • 6th place – 10th place: +2 Points (+5 Total).
  • 11th place – 25th place: +3 points (+3 Total).
  • Every Elimination gets you +1 point.
  • Bus Fare: -2 points (each match that you play gives you a “Bus Fare” penalty).

This is Fortnite trying out another ranked game mode for competitive players. There is no match limit, so you can play as many games as you want (until the tournament ends). Just be careful, make sure you’re doing well each game, because each match that you play has a “Bus Fare” penalty — this takes away 2 points at the start of every match.

The best players will rack up a lot of points in a short amount of time. Then the top 5% of these players will move onto the “Gauntlets Finals” tournament. Good luck!

Other Changes

Those are all the significant battle royale changes in Fortnite Patch V8.01, but there are a few more small changes for you to sink your teeth into.

if you’re a creative fan, there’s some new saved sprays and prefabs available.

Also, Save The World got another new hero! This mighty female soldier is known as the Highland Warrior Wildcat.

Please be sure to check out the official patch notes to get more details about all the changes.
