Fortnite Patch 10.10 Content Update Breakdown

by in Fortnite | Aug, 20th 2019

It’s another new week in the real world so you know exactly what that means: a new weekly update for Fortnite! This week, Epic Games has released the Fortnite patch 10.10 content update for all three modes of battle royale, Creative, and Save the World.

This update is on the smaller side compared to past patches but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t come with some pretty impressive additions and changes nonetheless. There are some new and glitched items in battle royale, new item additions to Creative mode, and a sweet new rocket launcher in Save the World.

Of course, you might try to boot up the game right now and wonder why the Fortnite patch 10.10 content update isn’t installing on your game. Well, last week featured a major downloadable update for the game so this is the break week where you don’t have to download an actual update.

All of these changes in the Fortnite patch 10.10 content update will be immediately available to you when you log into the game starting today. In fact, if you are reading these patch notes right now, the update is already available to you in the game.

So, without further ado, let’s break down all of the major changes in the Fortnite patch 10.10 content update, starting with the biggest and most popular mode: battle royale.

Fortnite Patch 10.10 Content Update: Battle Royale

With battle royale this week, Epic Games is continuing its consistent seasonal changes to the map and items list by gradually adding more items and changes this week. Now, the changes this week are small in number but very big in importance and how they will change up the meta game.

The first new item added this week is a throwable item called the Junk Rift. Think of the new Junk Rift item as a grenade of sorts that you will throw at the ground near the target you are aiming for. However, you will need to be super careful with where you throw it, due to its insanely powerful ability.

When Junk Rift item hits the ground, it will break upon impact and spawn a large object in the sky above that starts plummeting towards the ground. This insanely large item will deal a ton of damage to players and everything that is in its path. As such, you are going to run for the hills if someone uses this.

When the plummeting object hits a player or something, it will instantly deal 200 damage and the direct hits will slightly knock players back as well. 200 damage is insane because that means that a normal player with full health and full shields will be wiped out instantly by this item.

The only players that would possibly survive the Junk Rift item are those who are in the controversial Brute mech that was also added in season X. It is possible that this item is a balancing one meant to counter to the mech in combat. That’s because the Junk Rift item doesn’t stop there.

Not only does the plummeting object deal damage directly as it hits players and other objects but it also does a shockwave after. Now, the shockwave goes further and deals only 100 damage, which is still enough to kill some players who have no shields or are weakened.

But that isn’t even all about this item. Not only is it likely going to kill unsuspecting players, but both the initial hit and shockwave will immediately destroy all vehicles and destructible objects upon impact. This, of course, includes the Brute mech so while the pilot might survive, their mech will not.

This makes the overpowered and crazy Junk Rift a necessary item to combat the Brute mech that is universally disliked by players around the world, both in esports and normal play. There is the risk, though, that the Junk Rift item is too powerful and could unbalance the game even more.

This is partially also because of the fact that the Junk Rift item drops in stacks of two. So, not only will a player be able to use it once but twice if they find one of these throwable items. The max stack size for the item is four and it only comes in the epic rarity.

You will be able to find the Junk Rift on the ground, in chests, supply drops, and llamas. Time will tell how this item fits into the meta game since it will be likely a major part of the endgame portions of matches from here on out. But it wasn’t the only new item added to the game with the Fortnite patch 10.10 content update.

The other new item is the glitched consumable. Glitched consumables can only be found at the explosion site this week (more on that in a bit). The possible glitched consumables that you will find there randomly switch between different foraged items from past battle royale seasons.

Here is the full list of the glitched consumable items that you can find at the explosion site right now along with what each of them do for you:

  • Apples: Grant 5 Health.
  • Mushrooms: Grant 5 Shield.
  • Coconuts: Grant 5 Effective Health (sum of a player’s Health + Shield).
  • Peppers: Increases player movement speed for a short duration.
  • Hop Rocks: Decreases player gravity for a short duration.
  • Shadow Stone: Turns players into a ghost for a short time, temporarily increasing their movement speed slightly and letting them dash through structures.

As you can see, these are mostly the typical consumable items that you might remember from past seasons and iterations of the battle royale island. However, the final addition, in particular, is an interesting and controversial one. Veteran players might remember the problematic Shadow Stone.

That item allowed players to turn into a ghost of sorts and caused an abundance of issues when it initially released. These issues even included making the player possibly invincible for a time if used in a certain way or letting the player remain as a ghost for the entire match instead of temporarily.

As such, it should come as no surprise that the Shadow Stone just released and it is already causing major issues inside the game. Because of this, Epic Games has already temporarily disabled the Shadow Stone at this time while these issues are addressed. Be sure to stay tuned for more news on that front.

On the island side of things, another rift beacon has occurred and caused more changes to the game that follow the Tilted Town introduction a couple of weeks ago and the return of Retail Row last week. This time, though, it’s not nearly as major as the other two changes this season.

The rift beacon at the recreation center has malfunctioned and caused an explosion. That explosion has left a giant crater in the aftermath that has also created the glitched consumables detailed above. You can only find the glitched consumable items at the explosion site for now.

Another cosmetic item has been visually updated this 4week; this time, it’s the Green Toy Wrap for your weapons and vehicles. Like before, Epic Games is offering a free refund for owners of the Toy Soldiers Wraps bundle that doesn’t require the use one of your precious refund tokens.

Players have 30 days from their next login if they own the bundle to redeem this free refund.

Fortnite Patch 10.10 Content Update: Creative Mode

For Creative mode, there are some new additions to the game that players who enjoy creating new maps and modes will be happy to hear about. There are five new prefabricated items for players to enjoy and starting utilizing on their unique islands.

Those five prefabricated items are listed below:

  • Dusty Depot Blue Warehouse
  • Dusty Depot Gray Warehouse
  • Dusty Depot Red Warehouse
  • Dusty Depot Visitor Warehouse
  • Dusty Diner

In addition to those, Epic Games is continuing the nostalgia trip by also adding two new galleries that revolve around the revival of Dusty Depot this season. You can find those two new galleries below:

  • Dusty Depot and Diner Gallery
  • Dusty Depot and Diner Prop Gallery

Fortnite Patch 10.10 Content Update: Save the World

Battle royale isn’t the only mode to get some major changes this week as the PvE mode Save the World gets some major additions and changes as well. The first of these is the latest weapon in the game; a new rocket launcher for players to test out against the hordes online.

The new rocket launcher weapon is the V6 Launcher. This hefty rocket launcher looks to be capable of launching not one, not four, but six rockets from its chambers and will be a welcome addition to your arsenal. The V6 Launcher is part of the weekly store now and will be joining the Rat Rod weapon set.

Players can begin purchasing the V6 Launcher when it goes live in the weekly store tomorrow, Wednesday, August 21 at 8 pm ET (5 pm PT). It will only be there for one week until the following Wednesday so you better act fast if you wish to purchase it for yourself.

The V6 Launcher shoots small, fast rockets in quick succession. You can launch up to six (hence the name) before needing to reload the weapon. Interestingly enough, it doesn’t consume ammo at all but it does have very low durability so you will still need to be careful when using it.

The other major addition this week to Save the World is a new weekly quest for you to complete. This week’s quest has you help the Cloaked Star NPC as he makes his way to the radio station to broadcast his signature song of the summer. You will want to load up the van and gather a group of fighters to help him get there.

Of course, with any major update like the Fortnite patch 10.10 content update, there are some important bug fixes included. There are a few major fixes this week for Save the World and they mostly center around the user interface system. You can find the full list of bug fixes in this update below:

  • Mission details now correctly update when switching between different Missions with a controller.
  • Resolved an issue where objective information was not displayed for the current Mission.
  • Added some information that was missing from the Command and Armory tabs.
  • Fixed an issue where the map was not loading properly after changing tabs.
  • Game no longer crashes when launching a Mission through the “Play Now” button in the quest log.
  • The Record Dash quest no longer states to find five records instead of four when in a full party.
