Fortnite New Year’s Event 2020 Details, Cosmetics Revealed
Fortnite is no stranger to holiday events that are celebrating major days in the year and data miners have uncovered the latest one. According to data miners, Epic Games will be hosting yet another Fortnite New Year’s event to enjoy in the game.
Though Christmas and other holidays wrapped up, Epic Games isn’t slowing down. Even in the middle of the Winterfest 2019 holiday event, there looks to be a new Fortnite New Year’s event happening to celebrate the start of 2020.
Players can welcome the start of a new year and decade in the middle of battle royale. Like last year, the event is offered live in the game for players around the world.
Fortnite New Year’s Event Details
Renowned data miner Lucas7yoshi revealed details surrounding the Fortnite New Year’s event for 2020 on Twitter. The data miner posted findings from the game’s files regarding the upcoming event. It seems like what we saw in the past.
According to the well-known data miner, the files show that there isn’t much of a difference between this year’s 2020 celebration and the one from last year.

For those who don’t know, the Fortnite New Year’s event for the start of 2019 was unusual. There was a dance party in the middle of battle royale matches all night long. Whenever the clock would strike the beginning of a new hour, players would have to dance around for a while.
It was because the game celebrated the start of the new year in a new part of the world with each new hour. Instead of having time-specific events for each region of the world, Epic decided to make everyone join in on the dance floor every single hour.
Because of this, we could see a similar event happen for the start of 2020. Hopefully, there is something new to it, though, because it was a somewhat repetitive celebration last year that became slightly annoying for those who were in the game for long periods.
New Year’s Cosmetic Items Leaked
In addition to details about the upcoming Fortnite New Year’s event, Lucas7yoshi also discovered new cosmetic items. As part of the celebration, a new weapon wrap is offered in the item shop.
Players can purchase the Star Party weapon wrap in the game’s item shop. The cool weapon skin features various colorful stars on the weapon. It is a fancy way of showing off the excitement for the new year and decade while in battle royale matches.
The data miner also confirmed that the leaked New Year’s weapon wrap is given out for free to players who fulfill a specific objective. Players can get the New Year 2020 weapon wrap as part of the ongoing Winterfest 2019 event.
Each new day, there are new challenges to complete. One of the challenges rewards players with the weapon skin to celebrate the new year. Players likely pick up the challenge for the weapon wrap in the new Winterfest Lodge area of the game.
It is accessible in the main battle royale lobby by selecting the new snowflake icon at the top of the menu. Checking out your stockings likely on New Year’s Eve or Day allows you to find the necessary challenge for getting this new weapon wrap.
The New Year 2020 weapon wrap is sweet for a free goodie. It has a nice fireworks explosion near the end of the weapon.
Beyond the details in the in-game files, there is a disco ball formed near the middle of the whole island. The disco ball likely hints at the dance party happening in the game as part of the New Year’s Eve celebration.
Considering that we have a brand-new map and chapter in the game, though, here is hoping that there is more to this year’s celebration than just dancing around every hour. We wouldn’t be surprised if there is a return of one fan-favorite limited-time game mode.
As part of the Winterfest holiday limited-time event, Epic Games is bringing back a new game mode each day in addition to the return of a favorite fan weapon. It has allowed the return of excellent game modes like Wick’s Bounty and so on.
Disco Domination Could Return
With the big disco ball in the sky that is showing up, it would make sense to see the return of the Disco Domination limited-time game mode even if it is only for one day. That mode is all about dancing around the map and it would be a great way to start the new year.
Players are broken up into larger teams that have various dance pads scattered around the map. The goal is to capture as many of the dance pads as possible by heading there and busting out your favorite dance moves to charge up a bar and capture that area.
It is a lot like the standard objective capture mode from other games with the added hilarity of having to pull off some dance moves to make it happen. It is a perfect limited-time game mode that works well with the New Year’s celebration.
Of course, Epic Games could do something entirely new to celebrate the start of the new year and have a huge fireworks show or something like that for players to tune into live as the countdown happens in their region.
For now, we have to wait and see as there are only a few more days left until the end of 2019 and the start of 2020.
