Fortnite Generations Cup Announced: How to Win a Free PS5

by in Fortnite | Dec, 17th 2020

Epic Games has officially announced the next tournament that players on certain platforms will participate in. This Fortnite Generations Cup event is open to nearly everyone out there in Fortnite, so long as you are on two particular platforms, so there is no reason not to try it out.

Fortnite Generations Cup Announced

The Fortnite Generations Cup was revealed in an Epic Games blog announcement, noting the details about this cup and how it is suddenly happening in the game very soon. Though the announcement was this week, the cup will happen this week as well.

Fortnite has partnered with PlayStation once again for the exclusive Fortnite Generations Cup that is only happening on PlayStation platforms. Only those on PS4 or PS5 versions of the game will be able to join in on the fun and compete for some impressive prizes. Yep, even the PS5 is included, despite next-gen tournaments not being at the console’s launch.

The Fortnite Generations Cup is all about the new skin that you can unlock, apparently only exclusively in the PlayStation versions of the game, and the chance to win a free PS5 console. Yes, you read that right; you can win a free PlayStation 5 in the Generations tournament if you do well enough.

This is especially exciting since the PS5 is only about a month old at this point. There are only so many released in the wild. Sure, more keep springing up for sale every once in a while, but they are typically gone within a couple of minutes.

Generations Cup Will Give Away a Free PS5

If you are looking for a PS5 still, this is your chance to earn one and for free. Again, you will have to do well in the event, though, if you want to have a shot at earning this item. The event will begin on Friday, Dec. 18, which is tomorrow if you are reading this on the day of publishing.

That isn’t a ton of time to prepare for the event, but you will want to jump in if you want a chance to win a free PS5 console. You don’t need to own a PS5 to participate, as you can still play the game on PS4 and compete in the new exclusive tournament for PlayStation players.

Since the game has easy crossplay and cross-progression across systems, this also means that you can quickly jump to the PS4 platform if you own the console already, even if you play the game primarily on other systems. But there are some minor requirements that you must keep in mind.

You need to have an account level of 30 overall to compete in the Fortnite Generations Cup. If you don’t have level 30, you will not be able to compete, but, fortunately, this is pretty easy to reach and you likely already have this if you’ve been playing for a good while now.

How to Get Into the Event

You must meet the other requirement that you must have turned on two-factor authentication on Fortnite for your Epic Games account. If you don’t have that on, it only takes a couple of minutes to complete, so be sure to head on over to the Epic Games website to complete that task as soon as possible.

As for the tournament itself, it will only be a solo event. This is likely because you are competing for a PS5 console, so they would have multiple consoles if it was a duos, trios, or squads event. You will need to carry the entire game on your own since your score is all up to you.

The solo event will follow the general scoring system that we see in most tournaments like this one. You need to get high placements and as many eliminations as possible to earn as many points as possible during the event.

The scoring system breaks down to counting one point for you for every elimination you can get in a tournament match while the event is going on and then points based on your match placement. If you get 25th-50th place in a match, you get one point.

Schedule, Prizes, and Other Details

If you get 16th-24th place in a match — the official rules say 25th, but it doesn’t make sense to mention it twice — you will get three points. Players who get sixth-15th place will get five points while second through fifth will get seven points. The winner of the victory royale will get 10 points.

You want to aim for as many points as possible during the event as there will be players of all skill levels competing in this event. Your score will determine your overall placement at the end of the three-hour event, and that will determine if you get any prizes.

If you are in the top 2400 players in the Europe region tournament, you will get the Indigo Kuno cosmetic skin and her back bling while the top 1500 players in North America East and top 600 in North America West will get the same prize.

It varies from region to region, so check out the specifics on the announcement blog post. But what is constant is that the number one player from every region will win a free PS5 console. There is only one console per region and only one winner of this item, so be sure to do your very best.

The event will begin at different times on Friday, so be sure to check your local times. For North America East, it will start at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT) and go for three hours until 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT). For North America West, it will be from 6 p.m. PT to 9 p.m. PT. The tournament game mode will live in Fortnite during that time, making every second and match count.
