Fortnite Doomsday Event and Season 3 Delayed Again
Believe it or not, Fortnite season three is coming at some point; it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get there. Epic Games announced today that the upcoming third season of the game and the Fortnite Doomsday event that will kick it off are arriving later than anticipated.
New Fortnite Doomsday Event and Season 3 Dates Announced
The new release date for season three and the Fortnite Doomsday event was announced on the official Epic Games blog post today. The new release date is now set for Wednesday, June 17 — two weeks from now — for the launch of the third season, which is a little bit later than before.
On the other hand, this also means that the Fortnite Doomsday event has been delayed as well and will now take place just under two weeks from now on Monday, June 15. The blog post went into details regarding why yet another delay is happening and you can likely guess why.
Epic Games started the message by noting that the recent events that have happened in the United States are a “heavy reminder” of the ongoing injustices in our society. These include the “denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism,” both overtly and subtlety done.
To this point, Epic Games is promoting equality, justice, diversity, and inclusion and is aware of the pain that the players, friends, employees, and communities are experiencing at this time. In a powerful move, Epic Games took a stand and noted that these things are far more important than the politics that are at the heart of this conflict and society we are in.
Why the Season Was Moved Back Again
With that said, though, the battle royale developer is excited for the start of Fortnite season three but this just isn’t the right time for It to happen. Epic specifically pointed out that it needs to balance development with the employees being able to spend time to focus on this situation and their family.
This is the reason why the Fortnite Doomsday event and season three have been formally delayed once again. While it is understandable that some players would be bothered by this delay after we just got one, we do believe that is an extremely valid reason and am proud of Epic for this move.
Fortunately for those players who are bothered by this new delay, the wait won’t be for too much longer than we thought it was going to be. It is less than a week after the previous release date and two weeks or so after when it was going to happen after its first delay.
Originally, season three was going to come out towards the end of April 2020 or the beginning of May. That was when season two was meant to end at first, but that was changed before the end of April. Epic Games revealed that the season had to wait a little bit longer and so it was pushed back.
Doomsday Event Now Known as The Device
That original delay was about a month or so and placed it on Thursday, June 4, which happens to be tomorrow. For a while now, we thought that tomorrow would be the day for the new season to start but it was recently pushed back one more week to June 11.
Now, with everything going on in the United States, the new season has been understandably delayed yet again to June 17. Barring any more major changes in the country and world, we do believe that this will be the release date for the new season, so it is rather close.
What is interesting about this blog post announcement is that it does tease something for players that we didn’t expect. It specifically mentioned the Fortnite Doomsday event but gave the official title for it that Epic Games is using to note this upcoming game-changing moment.
The new live event is being referred to as The Device event and will happen two days before the launch of the new season. This is the first time that Epic Games has officially acknowledged exactly when the major live event will happen in the game, confirming what leaks have shown so far.
What We Know About The Device Event
The Device is likely about the Doomsday item that Midas has likely taken control of in the recent lore of the game. It is theorized in the community that this device will be used by Midas to do something to the battle royale island, whether intentionally or not.
This Device live event will likely see players in matches encounter a moment where the device will go off and cause whatever mayhem it does to the game. The problem with this is that it is two days before the start of the new season.
Presumably, Epic Games will not want to have the map changes go live right then, but at the same time, this isn’t like other live events where you can just ignore its changes and keep letting players play. Instead, it seems more like the black hole event where the game was offline for a while.
While it would be potentially controversial to take Fortnite offline for two days ahead of season three, this is something that the developer could choose to do as it was similarly done between the first chapter and the second one that we are in right now.
The question remains if Epic Games will do this or not, or if players will be able to continue playing up until the start of the new season. Regardless of the answer, it will be interesting to see what happens at the event and how the community will react to it.
You won’t have to wait too much longer to find out as The Device live event will happen on Monday, June 15 and lead into the start of the third season on Wednesday, June 17.
