Fortnite Championship Series Season 2 Finally Announced
Since the start of 2020, Epic Games has been rather quiet when it comes to the Fortnite battle royale competitive scene. Except for a few minor events, the future of the official esports sector for the game has been roughly unknown for the last couple of months.
Fortnite Championship Series Season 2 Announced
With the launch of Season 2, it looks like Epic Games is ready to move forward with the start of the competitive season. It all begins with the Fortnite Championship Series Season 2 formally announced this week.
The latest season of the Championship Series will begin on March 20, across all available platforms. The long-awaited return of the fan-favorite esports league will be available for duos partners soon.
While the event kicks off on March 20, a training simulation takes place March 13-15. It will allow players to get training ahead of the launch of the Fortnite Championship Series Season 2.
Players can warm up their skills online and get a feel for how the league will go. It is an exciting time for the Fortnite competitive scene. The Fortnite Championship Series Season 2 will only be available for participation to a group of players.
How to Get Into the League
Each player who competes in the league has to fulfill a few requirements. First, you need to be part of the Champion league in the Arena ranked competitive mode of battle royale.
If you reached that portion of the Arena ranked tiers, then you will be eligible. You just need to activate two-factor authentication. The promoted feature from Epic Games is easy to activate. All you need to do is head to the official Epic Games website and change up your account.
There are two tournament tracks that players can compete in throughout the season. It depends on what platform you register and prefer to play the game on. One is dedicated solely to PC players, while the other is for players on the console or mobile devices.
This is a great move from Epic Games. It mostly separates the players who prefer to use keyboard and mouse for playing the game from those who prefer playing with a controller or touchscreen. While this hasn’t mattered in the past, the two input methods could make a huge difference online.
Tournament Format
There are two tracks in total that players can compete in. Each one of them will have the same prizes and their champions to crown. This is great since no preferential treatment is given to one group over the other one.
However, there is one important caveat players should keep in mind when competing in the Fortnite Championship Series Season 2. Your duos partner for the league must be on the same tournament track as you are to be eligible.
Players on the PC tournament track are unable to perform alongside a partner playing on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, or Android devices. This only separates one platform from the others, but it is worth keeping in mind, nonetheless.
The Fortnite Championship Series Season 2 will go on for several weeks and each week. Players who are still in the Champion league (no matter which division) can compete. How it works is that players can queue up for up to 10 matches and earn points.
Players will earn points for getting eliminations and their placements. Each elimination a player gets in the matches earns them one point while placing 11th through 15th equals three points, sixth through 10th equals five points, and second through fifth earns seven points.
How to Reach the Season Finals
The player who wins the match and gets the victory royale gets a total of 10 points plus whatever they get from getting eliminations, too. At the end of each week during the seasonal series, players with the most points during that week per server region immediately qualify for the season finals tournament.
On the other hand, the only other way to qualify for the season finals is having the highest-ranked duos players on the overall series leaderboard for the entire season. The Championship Series only lasts through the duration of the current season before likely switching over to a Season 3 format in the future.
This is one of the first major events for Fortnite that Epic Games has announced for 2020. At this time, we don’t have any word on whether the World Cup will return this summer, along with other competitive events that players know and love.
Fortunately, Epic Games ended its announcement of the return of the Championship Series with a tease of what’s to come. In addition to the new season of this series, players can expect to hear more from Epic soon regarding the evolving 2020 competitive roadmap.
The coronavirus global health emergency may be a contributing factor to the currently unknown 2020 year of Fortnite competitive. It could also be because the game experienced a change in this physics system before the season’s launch.
