Apex Legends is getting a new character joining its roster in Season 4. This is no surprise whatsoever as developer Respawn Entertainment has been great about consistently releasing at least one new legend per season.

Respawn Entertainment Surprises Everyone with New Legend Announcement

We all expected the Apex Legends Season 4 legend to be announced before the start of the upcoming season and then released at that time. However, what we didn’t expect is how it would be announced, when this announcement would take, and what the info would contain.

Developer Respawn Entertainment posted a new video on YouTube that reveals almost everything you need to know about the upcoming season of battle royale. The video starts by showcasing the development team and their journey to this point.

In a lot of ways, the video functions as a celebration of the first year of this popular battle royale title. From there, though, it doesn’t take long to get to the new info that was shared. Part of the reveal included crazy info like the Apex Legends Season 4 legend that we didn’t expect at this time.

Players can get their first glimpse of the character joining the game, see them in action, and get a general feel for how they will affect the current state of the game. That new Apex Legends Season 4 legend is none other than Forge.

Forge Is Your Apex Legends Season 4 Legend

You might see the new legend named Forge and wonder where this character came from. Respawn has yet again proved that. Despite the rampant number of leaks that happen for the game, there are still some secrets that it has hidden up its sleeves.

Forge is a character we knew nothing about in the past, despite all of the leaks, data mining, and more that occurred. We covered over a dozen legends that are, or have been, in development before, but he isn’t one of them.

Despite this, he is your new Apex Legends Season 4 legend joining the roster as the fourth post-launch character after Octane, Wattson, and Crypto. This shocked all of us not just because of the surprise timing of this announcement but the new legend’s identity as well.

From all the leaks and data mining thus far, it was almost entirely set in stone that the new legend would be Revenant. After all, a seemingly completed kit was leaked recently for the character after the prototype abilities months back, making it seem like he was completed.

Also, there were new art and in-game files recently that pointed to the character being the Season 4 legend. There are even the cinematic appearances of Revenant. But this isn’t the case as Respawn has pulled a fast one on us and revealed someone that no one was expecting in the slightest.

Our Apex Legends Season 4 legend is Forge, a melee-focused augmented brawler character who is quite unlike anyone else that we have seen before in the free-to-play battle royale game. He is a five-time former champion of heavyweight fighting.

This is seen in his robotic left arm that likely gives him the upper hand over his opponents. In terms of his play in the metagame, the developer video describes him as the “exact opposite of Crypto.” This is an intriguing sentiment that becomes clearer.

Forge Kit Abilities Potentially Leak Early

Unfortunately, the officially known details for Forge end there. However, thanks to the always helpful That1MiningGuy, we now know some of the possible leaked abilities that the robotic arm brawler will have when he joins the roster in Season 4.

According to the leaks that we have from the popular data miner, Forge will have a melee-specific kit of abilities. Though the in-game files don’t reveal everything about him, he is described in the files as having a grapple move that pulls the enemies to you and then can be used to launch the enemies into the air.

Presumably, this is likely to be the tactical ability that Forge has. We could see it as an aggressive way of taking on the opponents. Also, he can activate his ability in the air and doing so will cause him to slam down into the ground below him.

His tactical ability can likely morph in a way, depending on the situation and when you activate it. The game files also detail some healing aspect of his abilities. In some way, it is possible that using melee attacks could heal Forge and even activate an overshield.

We don’t know much about the overshield at this time, but it possibly can activate for Forge and protect him since he does willingly point himself in some vulnerable situations. Beyond that, we don’t know much else about the character and those details could even be outdated at this point so take it with a grain of salt.

What We Think About Forge in the Current Meta So Far

With such little information known about Forge so far, it is hard to say how he will affect the metagame. However, the note about him being the opposite of Crypto says a whole lot. We suspect that he is a brawler who has no problem getting up close and personal.

As such, this could lead to a more aggressive play style that will discourage the safe, comfortable play that has been part of the meta for some time now. For players going up against Forge, they will have to combat fire with fire if they want to survive against this grappling and melee-focused foe.

We won’t have to wait much longer to find out more details about the new Apex Legends Season 4 legend. The season is confirmed to begin on February 4. We will likely have more info about Forge’s abilities and the rest of the content for the new season before the release.
