FlyQuest will field its entire Academy line-up for week 6 of the 2021 LCS Summer Split. It goes without saying, but this really isn’t a good sign for the boys in white and green. And, in all fairness, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before this happened — FlyQuest are on a ten-game losing streak and are the de facto worst team in the LCS. There’s no other way to put it.

So, frankly, there’s no reason why FlyQuest shouldn’t give its Academy line-up a shot. They’re currently ranked second over in the “little leagues” so it’s not like they haven’t earned it. They obviously have a lot more synergy and have actually looked like a team with some semblance of cohesion, unlike their more seasoned colleagues who have been fumbling and failing every which way throughout the year on the biggest stage in North America.

That’s sort of been the biggest problem with FlyQuest: they lack a coherent identity. They look like a bunch of solo queue randoms, rather than a five-man unit. And for some odd reason this hasn’t changed whatsoever even though we’re seven months into the 2021 season.

Seeing FlyQuest fail in so many different ways across such a short period of time was not easy to stomach; they have all the right players to compete for a spot in the playoffs and yet nothing seems to have gone their way. Who’s to blame doesn’t even matter at this point — they should focus on the future instead of trying to right the (sinking) ship.

We gave them a pass for being so bad in Spring, thinking they’d correct course and start swinging for the fences in the second half of 2021. In the end, though, they only became worse and worse. At least this way their Academy line-up will get a bit of stage time and perhaps grow from it as a result.
