Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers Job Changes Updated in Jobs Guide

Square Enix has finally released the Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers job changes as well as an update to the jobs guide to accompany those changes. In addition to the two new job classes,Gunbreaker and Dancer, every other existing class has gotten some love, too.

There are new actions for players to check out plus older actions have been updated to work better in the new expansion. There are plenty of changes for each class from just tweaking a couple of things like damage, cooldown, etc to full blown overhauls of the class as you know it like with the Machinist and the Summoner to an extent.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at all of the Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers job changes for Paladin, Dark Knight, Warrior, White Mage, Scholar Astrologian, Monk, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai, Bard, Machinist, Black Mage, Summoner, and Red Mage. Let’s begin with the tank job classes.

Paladin Job Changes

There have been updates and changes to almost all of the job action abilities for the Paladin. You can find just some of them below:

  • Fast Blade’s potency has been increased to 200 from 160
  • You now acquire Riot Blade at level four rather than 10 and potency has been increased to 300
  • Total Eclipse is now acquired by Gladiator at level six rather than 46 and potency is increased to 120
  • Shield Bash is now acquired at level 10 rather than level 18
  • Iron Will is now acquired by Gladiator at level 10 and the abilities of it have been completely revamped
  • Rage of Halone’s combo action is now Riot Blade and its potency has been increased to 350
  • Spirits Within is now acquired at level 30, its potency is now 370, and it now restores MP
  • Sheltron is now acquired at level 35, its duration is reduced to six seconds, and it now blocks incoming attacks
  • Sentinel’s damage reduction is now only 30 percent while its cooldown is only 120 seconds
  • Prominence is a brand new area of effect attack that is learned from the level 40 job quest and its combo action is Total Eclipse
  • Cover is now acquired at level 45, it no longer reduces damage taken in place of another party member, and has a cost of 50 from the Oath gauge
  • Circle of Scorn’s damage over time and potency has been increased
  • Goring Blade’s damage over time and overall potency has been increased
  • Divine Veil’s cooldown time has been reduced to 90 seconds

Dark Knight Job Changes

You can find just some of the major changes for the Dark Knight job below:

  • Hard Slash now deals more damage
  • Syphon Strike is learned at level two, is stronger, and isn’t affected by stances that don’t exist anymore
  • Unleash is stronger than ever before
  • Grit is now acquired at level 10, is an ability rather than stance, and has been completely revamped
  • MP cost for Unmend has been removed
  • Souleater is unlocked at level 26, is stronger, increases Blood gauge more, and restores HP
  • Flood of Darkness is a new level 30 job quest ability that is a powerful line attack
  • Blood Weapon is now a level 35 ability and has been completely revamped
  • Edge of Darkness is a new level 40 job quest skill that is similar to Flood of Darkness
  • Plunge is now a charge ability with up to two charges available

Warrior Job Changes

You can find just some of the Warrior job changes below:

  • Heavy Swing has increased potency
  • Maim is a level four ability now and damage has been increased
  • Defiance is now a level 10 ability that has been completely changed
  • Storm’s Path is a level 26 ability now that is stronger and restores HP
  • Thrill of Battle is now level 30, increases healing to self, and has reduced cooldown
  • Mythril Tempest is a new level 40 job quest ability that combos with Overpower and deals area of effect damage
  • Steel Cyclone is now stronger and no longer requires Defiance to execute
  • Storm’s Eye is also stronger and had extra traits removed from it
  • Infuriate is now a charge ability with up to two charges and grants Nascent Chaos

White Mage Job Changes

Here are just some of the massive changes to White Mage:

  • Cure no longer adds a lily to the gauge and has cast time reduced
  • Fluid Aura’s knockback effect has been removed and its range has been greatly increased
  • Cure II also no longer adds a lily
  • Regen has stronger healing potency and shorter duration
  • Holy is weaker than it was, affects all enemies the same, costs less MP to cast, and has shorter cast time
  • Potency and damage over time have been both increased for Aero II
  • Medica II is stronger, doesn’t last as long, and is quicker to cast
  • Afflatus Solace is a new level 52 ability that costs one lily, has instant cast, and heals 700 potency
  • Stone III is stronger
  • Stone IV is also stronger
  • Plenary Indulgence has been completely changed

Scholar Job Changes

FFXIV Scholar Shadowbringers Job Changes

Here are just some of the changes for the Scholar job class:

  • Ruin has much stronger potency
  • Bio has less damage over time but now lasts for 30 seconds
  • Physick has a shorter cast time now
  • You now have the level four abilities that are Summon Eos and Summon Selene
  • Resurrection is now a level 12 ability
  • Whispering Dawn is now a job action and affects Eos, Selene, and the new Seraph
  • Damage over time has been increased for Bio II
  • The barrier absorption of Adloquium has been increased
  • Succor now heals stronger than before
  • Ruin II is now much stronger in potency
  • Aetherflow is now a level 45 ability and can only be cast in combat, which sucks
  • Art of War is a new level 46 ability that deals decent damage to all enemies
  • Sacred Soil is now a level 50 skill and it adds regen now
  • Indomitability has been reduced from 500 cure potency to only 400 (rest in peace)
  • Broil’s damage has been significantly increased
  • Your pet will return after the effects of Dissipation run out
  • Excogitation can now be used on yourself
  • Broil II is now stronger

Astrologian Job Changes

Here are just some of the changes to the Astrologian job class:

  • Benefic now has a shorter cast time
  • Combust does less damage over time
  • Lightspeed now lasts for 15 seconds instead of 10 seconds
  • Helios is now a little bit stronger in cure potency
  • Essential Dignity is now a charge ability and can hold up to two charges
  • Benefic II has been slightly increased in healing potency
  • Aspected Benefic is now stronger than before but effect duration is shorter
  • Redraw is now a charge ability with up to three charges available
  • Aspected Helios has been mostly reduced in healing potency but barrier absorption is stronger
  • Gravity is weaker than before, affects all enemies the same, and is shorter to cast
  • Damage over time for Combust II is less
  • Divination is a new level 50 ability that increases damage of yourself and your party members
  • Almost all of the cards an Astrologian have changed a bit

Monk Job Changes

Here are just some of the Monk job changes:

  • Bootshine is slightly stronger and has Leaden Fist potency of 300 now
  • True Strike is stronger in potency
  • Snap Punch is stronger in potency
  • Twin Snakes is stronger in potency
  • Arm of the Destroyer is stronger but doesn’t add silence
  • Demolish is stronger both in potency and damage over time
  • Rockbreaker is slightly weaker
  • Shoulder Tackle doesn’t stun anymore and is now a charge ability with up two charges
  • Fists of Fire give a better increase to damage now
  • Four-point Fury is a new level 45 ability that does damage to all enemies as well as other effects
  • Dragon Kick is now stronger in potency and grants Leaden Fist
  • The Forbidden Chakra is now significantly stronger in potency and now has a recast timer of one second

Dragoon Job Changes

Here are just some of the changes to the Dragoon job class:

  • True Thrust has been significantly increased in potency
  • Vorpal Thrust has also been increased a good bit
  • Piercing Talon is now stronger
  • Disembowel is now a level 18 ability, is stronger, and actually combos with True Thrust now
  • Full Thrust is a good bit stronger now
  • Lance Charge has been completely changed and has a longer cooldown
  • Jump is a bit stronger than before
  • Doom Spike is now a little bit stronger
  • Spineshatter Dive is stronger but doesn’t stun anymore
  • Chaos Thrust is now stronger overall
  • Dragonfire Dive is also now stronger
  • Blood of the Dragon now lasts for 30 seconds instead of just 20 seconds
  • Fang and Claw has now been increased in damage potency

Ninja Job Changes

FFXIV Ninja Shadowbringers Job Changes

Here are just some of the changes to the Ninja job class:

  • Spinning Edge is now significantly more powerful in damage potency
  • Shade Shift now nullifies all damage types
  • Gust Slash now has a potency of 250
  • Trick Attack is now much stronger and more useful
  • Aeolian Edge has now been significantly increased in damage potency
  • Shadow Fang now combos with Spinning Edge instead of Gust Slash and has better damage over time
  • Death Blossom is now a level 38 ability and deals more damage
  • Shukuchi is now a charge ability with up to two possible charges
  • Kassatsu is now a charge ability with up two charges possible and increases damage of next Ninjutsu ability by 30 percent
  • Hakke Mujinsatsu is a new level 52 ability that deals good damage to all enemies and combos with Death Blossom and extends Huton duration by 10 seconds
  • Armor Crush is now a good bit stronger
  • Assassinate is now a level 60 ability and can only execute when Assassinate ready
  • Dream Within a Dream is now stronger and makes the player ready to Assassinate
  • Some of the Ninjutsu abilities have been changed a bit

Samurai Job Changes

Here are just some of the changes to Samurai:

  • Hakaze now has a stronger damage potency
  • Jinpu is now stronger and the effect duration is longer
  • Shifu is now stronger, effect is stronger, and the effect duration is longer
  • Gekko is slightly stronger than before
  • Mangetsu is weaker than before but extends Jinpu further and affects all enemies equally
  • Kasha has stronger combo potency now
  • Oka is similar to Mangetsu in changes but for Shifu instead
  • Meikyo Shisui lasts longer than before and has a shorter cooldown time
  • Meditate now has an additional effect of granting Meditation stacks up to a maximum of five
  • Most Hissatsu abilities have been increased in potency
  • The Iaijutsu abilities have been mostly changed

Bard Job Changes

Here are just some of the major changes for the Bard job class, of which there are quite a lot:

  • Straight Shot can now only be executed when ready for it and is much stronger
  • Heavy Shot is much stronger in potency and has a 20 percent chance of making your ready for Straight Shot
  • Venomous Bite now lasts longer
  • Bloodletter is now stronger in potency
  • Quick Nock is stronger and has a 30 percent chance of resetting Bloodletter and Rain of Death
  • Windbite now lasts longer
  • Barrage now grants the Straight Shot ready effect
  • Rain of Death is now significantly stronger
  • Battle Voice now has a stronger potency
  • Pitch Perfect is now stronger overall
  • Empyreal Arrow is now categorized as an ability
  • Iron Jaws now give a 35 percent chance of becoming Straight Shot ready
  • Troubadour has been completely changed up
  • Caustic Bite is now stronger, has better damage over time, and has a chance of giving Straight Shot ready
  • Refulgent Arrow is now stronger and can only be executed when Straight Shot ready

Machinist Job Changes

Here are just a few of the major job changes for Machinist, which has gotten the biggest overhaul out of any class on this list:

  • The effects of Split Shot, Slug Shot, Hot Shot, Clean Shot, Hypercharge, Heat Blast, Rook Autoturret, Wildfire, the Heated shots, and more have been completely changed from the ground up
  • Detonator is a new level 45 ability that ends the effect of Wildfire and deals damage to target
  • Auto Crossbow is a new level 52 cone area of effect attack
  • Tactician is a new level 56 ability that reduces damage to yourself and party members by 10 percent
  • Drill is a very strong level 58 ability that deals an attack of 700 potency

Black Mage Job Changes

Here are just some of the changes to the Black Mage job class:

  • Blizzard’s effect duration lasts longer
  • Fire’s duration also lasts longer
  • The cooldown time for Transpose is now shorter
  • Blizzard II no longer casts bind but does last longer
  • Fire II also lasts longer
  • Manafont is a changed level 30 ability with new name and it restores 30 percent of max MP
  • Fire III now lasts longer
  • Freeze is shorter to cast and has been completely revamped
  • Blizzard III now lasts longer
  • Flare has been changed to affect remaining enemies for only 40 percent less damage and lasts longer
  • Sharpcast only has a cooldown of 30 seconds now
  • Enochian’s increase to damage dealt is now 15 percent instead of 10 percent
  • Blizzard IV is now much stronger in damage potency

Summoner Job Changes

FFXIV Summoner Job

Here are just some of the major changes for the Summoner job class:

  • Ruin now does more damage to the target if you apply Miasma or Bio or both
  • Bio has less damage over time but lasts longer
  • Physick no longer takes as long to cast
  • Summon I, II, and III are all abilities now and have instant cast with no MP cost
  • Miasma is now a level six ability, has less damage over time, but lasts longer
  • Egi Assault is a new level 10 charge ability with up to two possible charges that orders your summon to do a special move
  • Fester is now a level 18 ability and is much stronger
  • Energy Drain has been completely changed
  • Bio II does less damage over time
  • Bane has been changed to now add Ruination and only affects remaining enemies with 40 percent less potency
  • Energy Siphon is a new level 35 job quest ability that does area of effect damage and grants Aetherflow II
  • Ruin II is now completely different
  • Dreadwyrm Stance, Summon Bahamut, and other abilities have been changed significantly
  • Pet actions and the pets themselves have also changed quite a lot

Red Mage Job Changes

Here are just some of the changes for the Red Mage job class, which are the least amount of changes any class in the new expansion:

  • Enhanced Scatter is no longer a thing while normal Scatter is now a level 15 ability that is stronger but now takes five seconds to cast
  • Displacement is stronger and now shares a recast timer with the new level 72 ability Engagement
  • Enhanced Moulinet only requires 20 White and Black Mana now
  • Contre Sixte now deals 50 percent less damage to all remaining enemies and only has a cooldown of 35 seconds now
  • Manafication has a slightly shorter cooldown now and increases magic damage dealt by five percent
  • Jolt II is a tiny bit more powerful and no longer grants Impact
  • Impact is its own spell now and has been completely changed to now be an area of effect spell
