The Fat Black Chocobo Mount is back in FFXIV, for a limited time! It’s a rare, but awesome mount, and you can receive one if you take part in a current collaboration courtesy of Square Enix. However, it does come at a price. It’s not a free mount, unlike many of the others in the game. Instead of purchasing the Fat Black Chocobo Mount in the online FFXIV store, you have to help out the streamers that actively play FFXIV. There’s a set list that you can support, and you can unlock the mount.

This collaboration between Square Enix and its community is aimed at rewarding the long-standing creators who play FFXIV, so they brought back the Black Chocobo mount. MrHappy, Inochifantasy, Neoni, Miabyte, and more are among the many you can support. To unlock the Fat Black Chocobo mount in FFXIV, you need to gift four subs to an eligible streamer on the list. There are streamers lists for English, French, German, Spanish, and Finnish streamers, which you can find here.

You have to gift four subs to that streamer, but they can’t be anonymous gift subs. It doesn’t matter what Tier sub you grant, but it has to be to that streamer. They also have to be streaming FFXIV for the gift sub to count. To do this, you just need to go to their stream, while FFXIV is being played and select the “Gift a Sub” button. You can do them all at once by clicking “4”, and then gift them to random or specific players. Gifting one will also give you 100 Heavenscrackers.

They don’t all have to be on the same stream either. Twitch will keep track of the subs you grant. This will cost about 19.96 USD, so it’s not too different from actually buying a mount. This will be live until Aug. 24 (1 p.m. CT), so there’s plenty of time. After you’ve gifted the four subs, you’ll be given the Chocobo Whistle in your notifications tab.

From there, you just have to go to the FF XIV Mog Station. You enter the item code you received there and follow the steps on the screen. Then you just have to wait for it to hit your mailbox in FFXIV! We’ve seen the Fat Black Chocobo mount come up a few times in the past, always tied to a promotion. It was available in China from KFC and an Amazon collaboration back in 2019. However, this is the first time it’s tied to actively helping streamers who play FFXIV, so that’s a really nice way to give back to the community.

Square Enix also points out that there may be other ways to obtain these items in the future.
