Faze Kicks off “Cinematic Universe” With Film Starring Rug
The first feature film in the “FaZe Cinematic Universe” has been announced, which will star FaZe Rug. Rug has been a longtime member of FaZe Clan and has a combined audience of 27 million followers. The movie featuring FaZe Rug will be the first in a slate of films transforming FaZe’s slate of content creators into movie stars as part of a partnership with Invisible Narratives. The partnership is said to “address the generational shift in content consumption.”
The film is set to be directed by Gregory Plotkin, a very successful editor in his own right of various Hollywood movies including Get Out, Happy Death Day, and the Paranormal Activity franchise. Simon Boyes is set to write the script. Faze Clan CEO Lee Trink and Nikhil Jayaram of FaZe Clan are set to produce.
Faze Looks to Expand Their Media Empire
Rug is known for his vlogs primarily but is also well known for his pranks (such as throwing snakes in a pool) and stunts like turning his backyard into a waterpark. He’s also become well known for championing various charities, and regularly features his family members in his YouTube videos. The release did not specify if his family will play any role in the upcoming movie.
“I am beyond excited to star in my first film!” says Brian Awadis, better known as FaZe Rug. “This is a dream come true for me. The idea to blend the world of YouTube content into traditional films is a creative adventure that I’m so proud to be a part of.”
FaZe also recently launched FaZe Studios, a separate venture aimed at making long-form content for youth culture. FaZe Studios will curate and produce TV and film projects as “cultural arbiters of the Gen Z and millennial space.”
“It’s his time and it’s our time,” says FaZe Clan CEO Lee Trink. “This is the moment where YouTube and Hollywood finally collide. Not only do we have an incredible team and thoughtful concept to take the leap from the smallest screen to the largest screen, FaZe Rug is also the perfect lead actor to kick it off.”
Faze’s roster of 85 influential personalities consists of world-class gamers, engaging content creators, and a mix of talent beyond the world of gaming, including NBA star Ben Simmons and global superstar artists Offset and Lil Yachty. FaZe Clan’s unmatched esports division includes seven competitive teams in Fortnite, FIFA, PUBG, PUBG Mobile, Rainbow Six, Call of Duty League (Atlanta FaZe) and CSGO with dozens of world championship trophies among them.
The organization was founded in 2010 and has built a total of 230 million followers across all platforms and creators at that time. With this movie, FaZe Rug is leading the charge in yet another innovative endeavor from the organization and we’ll be waiting with bated breath to see the results.
