FaZe EwOk Joins Mixer

Just weeks after Shroud announced his departure from Twitch for Microsoft-owned Mixer, it appears another streamer has made the transition as FaZe Clan’s EwOk officially announced her transition to Mixer this morning.

The move is the first by a member of the famed FaZe Clan org and is certainly the most unique signing for the platform.

EwOK is not only a 13-year old girl, but is also entirely deaf, which makes her climb to pro-status in Fortnite all the more impressive given the extra obstacles presented before her.

Microsoft’s Plans Changing

While EwOk is a well known and popular personality online, her Twitch stream numbers are a far cry from those of Ninja, Shroud, and other streamers Microsoft has been aiming to pull over to Mixer.

According to Twitch Metrics, she’s only been live on stream for 70 hours, and she averages only several hundred viewers on any given stream, a significant drop from her larger counterparts.

FaZe EwOk joining Mixer could be a sign that Microsoft is going after smaller, but cheaper streamers given how unsuccessful their big-name signings seem to have been at attracting new users.

Such a move would be rather sensible: if you want to build up your stable of famous streamers, going after a bunch of smaller ones instead of one big one gives more reasons for users to stay on your platform instead of returning to Twitch.

Mixer hasn’t had any problem garnering hours streamed on its platform, with the site garnering 32,000,000 hours compared to YouTubes 11,000,000 hours, though its hours viewed per user is significantly lower than any other platform at a mere 2.8 hours per user in the third quarter of this year.

Smaller streamers often have much more loyal viewers and supporters, and thus are more likely to follow their favorite streamer over to their new home wherever that may be.

It’s also interesting to note that Microsoft has mostly been signing streamers focused on the shooter genre, and may be prepping for a streaming blitz with the coming launch of the new Halo next year.

Fans of streamers playing shooters and more likely to play and buy those games themselves, and adding all these streamers to Mixer could prove a huge boon for the platform and the game’s sales, a much-needed boost given the struggles Halo has had since Bungie’s split from Microsoft over ten years ago.

Whether or not it will work out remains to be seen, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye out for in the year ahead.
