Express and Firebase Z Announced for Black Ops Cold War

Treyarch and Activision have revealed that the new content in Season 1 of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is not over just yet. More maps are coming for fans of Zombies and the online multiplayer, including the new Black Ops Cold War Firebase Z map.

Black Ops Cold War Midseason 1 Update Isn’t Over

Perhaps the most shocking part of all of this is that the Black Ops Cold War midseason 1 update isn’t over just yet. Initially, we knew that there was going to be a lot of content at the beginning of the season that would include new maps and game modes across the board, for the most part.

We also knew that not everything would release then and that more stuff would come later down the road in the first season’s midway point. That is what happened this week with the new Sanatorium map release for the Fireteam mode and more.

That was meant to be the midseason update that would celebrate the halfway point for the first season. We are now more than halfway to the second season from what we know, but the party isn’t over just yet for new content in Season 1

Treyarch has revealed that what we got this week was only half of the new content coming as part of the midseason 1 update. The second half of it will come a few weeks from now and bring even more goodies along for players to check out.

We won’t even see the second half of this update until Feb. 4. That is when the rest of the midseason content will arrive. That is pretty surprising, honestly, since we expect the second season to drop in Cold War and Warzone in that same month, but this is what has been announced.

Zombies Finally Gets More Content With Firebase Z

On Feb. 4, there will be two new content pieces that will reportedly arrive for Black Ops Cold War. They are both brand new maps that will be in the game. One of them is especially exciting for those who are fans of the undead-based Zombies game mode.

Zombies will finally get true new content that isn’t some little game type that twists up the formula with the new Black Ops Cold War Firebase Z map. This new map will be only the second new map to ever release for this iteration of Zombies if you don’t count Onslaught and Dead Ops Arcade 3.

Players have long-awaited a second map for the Zombies mode, including us — just read our lengthy argument for what needs to change for the undead mode here — and it is finally happening very soon. The second map will drop, for some reason, randomly towards the end of this season.

Little is known about the new Black Ops Cold War Firebase Z map, but it does seem like it will continue the new Dark Aether storyline that began with Die Maschine. From what we can tell, the map looks like it will be a brand new one rather than a remake or remaster like the first map was.

This is especially great since Die Maschine, while an excellent map, is a remake of the original World at War location that started it all and not something new as it should have been. The single map at launch was pretty lame and got old fast, so we hope that Black Ops Cold War Firebase Z map shakes things up.

Little else is known about the new Zombies map now, but be sure to check back in the coming weeks as we approach the launch date in February for more info about this intriguing new locale.

Express Will Be the Latest Black Ops 2 Map

Beyond the new Black Ops Cold War Firebase Z map for Zombies, there is one new map for online multiplayer that we know of. It seems that Treyarch is going to be paying homage to the original Black Ops 2 with this game as the next map is the second returning location from that title this season.

The fan-favorite Express map from Black Ops 2 will return on the same day as Firebase Z and offer up that classic train location. For those who have not checked this one out, the noteworthy part of this map is that two trains are circling the area.

Players will be able to check out the Express map in all of its remastered Black Ops glory when it drops for six on six multiplayer matches in Cold War. Also, it will be available for Onslaught on that same day. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to enjoy that particular version of it.

As you probably already know, the Onslaught Zombies mode is only available to PlayStation users at this time. But if you like Express, you can see it in a whole new light with this mode. Express is the second map from Black Ops 2 to launch in Season 1 besides the beloved Raid map. Then there is also Nuketown that came before them.

While you wait patiently for the Feb. 4 launch date of both of these maps to drop in Black Ops Cold War, there is a double XP weekend happening once more in the game. Yet another chance at double experience will happen this weekend until Tuesday, Jan. 19.
