Excel Esports could be the fastest-growing esports organization in Britain. They’re shaking things up at the top of the corporate ladder. A new CEO and CCO were revealed for Excel Esports this morning, coming from organizations known for sports and esports.

The new Chief Commercial Officer hails from Adidas and comes with 18 years of experience as their Director of Global Sports Marketing, the former CEO of Fnatic joined the mighty esports organization.

2020: A Time for Growth

As esports grows and evolve, so must our organizations. It’s no secret that Fnatic is a powerhouse. Undoubtedly this was aided by the success of their former CEO, Wouter Sleijffers. A well-respected name in the industry, they oversaw some of Fnatic’s biggest moments as they became a global esports power.

Since leaving the organization, Sleijffers has worked in a series of advisory roles for some of the most exciting new brands in esports, including Socios.com, Maika’i Copenhagen, Aggero and more. Wouter had this to say about the move:

“Excel Esports is the most beloved brand in UK esports, and I’m delighted to take up this new challenge of building the organisation into a household name on a global scale. My experience helping create one of the most established brands in the industry meant I recognised Excel’s extraordinary potential immediately, and I’m thrilled to be helping chart its course to become an international success.”

Change Starts At The Top

But they aren’t alone! Robin McCammon is entering the esports industry for the first time. Their work at Adidas will surely transfer over nicely, in the sports and lifestyle industries. During his time with Adidas, McCammon was the global lead of the World Cup 2014 project, 2012 UEFA Euro, and some of the companies’ biggest relationships.

That includes FIFA, Chelsea FC, and Liverpool FC. Their marketing success is second to none with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 in Canada, as well as 2019 in France. Robin McCammon also oversaw the global profile of international grassroots soccer program, Coerver Coaching.

This experience will surely assist Robin in his new role as Chief Commercial Officer with Excel Esports. In a recent press release, Robin McCammon also spoke about this new opportunity:

“In Excel, the boldest British esports brand, I have found a tremendous opportunity to leverage my experience in the sport and lifestyle world to build something truly new with the team that goes beyond what’s expected of an esports organisation. I’m delighted to join the fastest growing entertainment sector with such an immensely ambitious and disruptive company, and I very much look forward to getting my teeth into establishing Excel as a world leader in the esports space.”

Excel Esports has been around since 2014 and was founded by brothers Joel Holmes-Darby and Kieran Holmes-Darby. They created a brand that is synonymous with British esports and championship-level talent.

Under their leadership, the organization developed top-performing teams in the world’s most popular esport League of Legends and is one of 10 founding partners of the LEC, Europe’s most-watched esports league.

The founders are both moving into new positions with Joel Holmes-Darby acting as Chief People Officer and Kieran Holmes-Darby acting as Chief Gaming Officer. Having recently announced a new LEC player roster, combined with the addition of McCammon and Sleijffers, Excel Esports is poised to become a defining brand in the world of professional gaming.

Joel Holmes-Darby, Chief People Officer of Excel Esports had this to say about the new hires:

“I am extremely excited to be welcoming Wouter and Robin to our leadership team. They both bring with them valuable experience that will help us take Excel to the next level and we anticipate them having an immediate impact on our strategic thinking and operational effectiveness. I have never felt so enthusiastic before going into a new calendar year and the future of Excel is looking incredibly bright as we get set for our second Season in the LEC.”

We’re personally very excited to see what Excel Esports can do in the 2020 League of Legends season. Not just in League of Legends, but in all esports they reach into as the year goes on. It’s clear that these new hires in the roles of CEO and CCO are both people that are incredibly experienced in their positions.

With that, let’s see what the future holds for Excel Esports in this new esports season of 2020!
